Things that say you're "Home"

When I hit the traffic...

Coming home meaning been far away from home which would be the USA. Then the first sight would be out the plane window as I come in from Asia. Once on the ground it wouldn't be the house so much as it would be the aircraft carrier and walking on board.

The sandwich seems to be the only thing left that hasn't changed dramatically... the kids working the franchises don't even know it's supposed to be an all night trucker's diner with a grille behind the counter.

I beg to differ. It used to be possible to get the sardines and fries sandwich at the Oakland location. Now it seems that only the Strip District mothership still has it on the menu. That's what I'd call a dramatic change.

Had one of these twice... first time and the last time, sorry but didn't do anything for me except repeat!

Lea -- to be clear, that drawing does not depict a cheese steak. No no no: rather, PB are the inventors of the sandwich with fries. IMHO, the sardines one worked best because the tanginess of the canned fish (ideally topped with Tabasco sauce) partly offsets the heavy fries.

I-75 Northbound, Fisher Freeway Rouge River Bridge, .. you kinda come around a corner and all of a sudden downtown Detroit appears, plus Ambassador Bridge between Detroit and Windsor Canada. I know I am home.

About 2-3 miles as the crow flies from the Red X

The folding yardstick was invented in our County, hence the monument. Not the Golden Gate Bridge, but at least you could measure it.

Traveling north on 75 from downriver to Warren, over the Rouge Bridge and the cement plant drying silo with the X-mas tree on the very top all lit up, down the other side and past the Mobil refinery with the round tank painted up like a Detroit Tiger baseball, past Fisher body Caddy plant and then to the big arching fly-over where you can practically reach out the car windows and touch the red light of the Stroh's brewery sign. WRIF Baby, that is home...

Not to mention the wrong city. Opposite ends of the state. Primanti's is in Pittsburgh.

I grew up a few blocks away from the Capitol Cigar Store at 63rd & Pulaski in Chicago, which showed up in “Wayne’s World”. In my day it was a real cigar and tobacco shop (my friends and I were among the many who played the old Prince Albert in the can phone gag on them). The Indian didn’t wear glasses back then, but it wasn’t unusual to see a bunch of arrows stuck in his ***, because of countless late night bow and arrow attacks from the alley behind the store.

For me its pastrami, 4am, and another fine evening where nobody's beer googles took over and no dog catching or pig sticking... even my mom has memories of being young and hitting Primanti Bros in the wee hours after a night on the town. You were lucky to get a stool at the counter... I never went to the Oakland location, the crowd was not my preference...

Shame they caved to the PC crowd... another one bites the dust.
Maybe they should dress it up like Elizabeth Warren:rofl:

For the past 34 years, I've made the town of Marcellus, NY my home. For you guys living in Pennsylvania and parts of the northeast, yes, this is where Marcellus Shale gets its name. The outcropping is just a couple miles from me.

This place is probably as close to Mayberry as you're gonna get.

In the village you'll see stuff like this.

How about a parade or three.

The view from west of town... The village is in the valley below and I live in the upper left of this pic.

You can't show pictures of Marcellus without showing a couple from Gorge Rd in the fall.

Restored Martisco train station and museum. Martisco is the combo of Marcellus and Otisco
