Watch out, left lane hogs

Indiana has a left lane law, they don't enforce it
Same with minnesota.i bought some CPPA headers off a State Trooper, and he told me it's too hard to enforce, and caused more slowdowns and headaches than it's worth.

That's exactly what my brother told me. As much as he says he would LOVE to bust some ******* holding up traffic, they have bigger fish to fry.

The police aren't actually going to tell you straight-up that it is okay to speed. The speed limit is still the speed limit, and if you get caught by a cop's radar while passing you are still liable to get a ticket.
In Minnesota, it was stated by an officer that pulled over a co-worker, that you may go ten over while passing someone on a two lane road, then slow back to the limit.

I'm a left lane hog, but I pass almost every vehicle I encounter, the effects of being a parts delivery guy after getting my license!

Ontario is awful for left lane hogs. I agree with what this officer is saying. On multi-lane highways in Ontario the signs say:

It doesn't say anything about the speed limit. You aren't entitled to be in the left lane just because you're traveling at the speed limit. If cars are lined-up behind you, you are the slower traffic.

I doubt the OPP is actually stepping up enforcement to get people out of the left lane though.

This whole discussion applies when you're on a multi-lane road and "the flow of traffic" is speeding, in which case they're not going to pull anybody over unless a vehicle does something else sketchy that catches their eye.
I know a number of police officers in Illinois, and Indiana. The normal rule is 11 M.P.H. over the limit you will get a ticket.

It is also illegal in Germany. There they base your fine on your income. Talk about a money maker.
You don't mess around on the Autobahn, that monster lane is a monster and not you'd better not be in it if you don't want to move!

I know a lot of cops, sheriffs, HP's and all of them pretty much live by this rule unless other type conditions apply, like neighborhoods and such then they'll nail you for 5 over and up the cost of the ticket.

I forgot to mention, DO NOT SPEED IN A SCHOOL ZONE. They have a read out of your speed on the camera giving you the ticket.

I drive the TransCanada Highway everyday and I can't believe how many morons are camped out in the left lane going 5kph under. And don't get me started on the Semi's drag racing each other in slow motion up each hill....I can go 1.5KPH faster than you doesn't entitle you to pull into the left lane on a hill with 30 cars lined up behind you while you creep past the pineapple in the right lane. If there are no cars in front of you and there are behind you then YOU ARE THE SLOWER TRAFFIC...get outta the way! Rant over....for now I reserve the right to freak out later

My buddy’s Uncle was a state trooper down in red rock Arizona. He wrote impeding the flow tickets every day all day long. He would tell these pin heads I enforce the speed limit not you. Stay in the right lane. His boss couldn’t have cared less a ticket is a ticket so rock on.

In between Phoenix & Tucson was (still is) super dangerous because of this and the ensuing backups resulting in road rage. They added some lanes but it’s still a crazy stretch to run. The cops are super aggressive on the whole corridor. In the special enforcement zones I know people written up for 1 or 2 mph over the limit.

Here, pass this around to your fellow Ontarians before they head down here for the winter;

Statutes & Constitution :View Statutes : Online Sunshine

(2) Upon all roadways, any vehicle proceeding at less than the normal speed of traffic at the time and place and under the conditions then existing shall be driven in the right-hand lane then available for traffic or as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway except when overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction or when preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway.
(3) On a road, street, or highway having two or more lanes allowing movement in the same direction, a driver may not continue to operate a motor vehicle in the furthermost left-hand lane if the driver knows or reasonably should know that he or she is being overtaken in that lane from the rear by a motor vehicle traveling at a higher rate of speed. This subsection does not apply to drivers operating a vehicle that is overtaking another vehicle proceeding in the same direction, or is preparing for a left turn at an intersection.

Left lane hogs are among the worst offenders, and in the top ten of my pet peeves, and should be ticketed.

The others are tractor trailers that are speed governed, and take a number of MILES to pass each other, resulting in huge backups and road rage.

I find most truckers are among the safest drivers on the road by far, and have to put up with absolutely incredible stupidity by car drivers, but they should be legislated to stay in the far right lane at all times unless there are three lanes or more. Stuck behind another semi who's governer is set a couple of mph slower than yours? Too fkn bad... should be a law.

Truck drivers seem to fall into a "Catch22" situation. Most states require them to travel at a slower speed than cars. Bottle neck right there. I have seen where a truck goes to pass another truck, and the one getting passed speeds up. I am a firm believer in ALL interstate highways should be a minimum of three lanes wide, not two.

401 through the GTA is 'no trucks in left lane', isn't it?

Yes, and for the most part it works well there. However there are many many two lane 400 series highways where the trucks block both lanes for miles on end trying to pass each other. Drives me (and everyone else) nuts...
