To me, it seems that the words "offended" and "scandal" are used so much these days that they have lost their original orientation.

"Offended" used to mean that somebody got their feelings hurt by the action(s) of others. Nothing to get mad about and file lawsuits about, but that's what happens in more current times, it seems. Perhaps the offending comment/action was really more accurate than the one it was allegedly directed at was really accurate, but nobody wanted to admit it?

Many things which used to be considered "normal" have suddenly become "offensive". I guess that "skin" has become much thinner in recent generations? People now seem to "see harm" where no harm was intended by the alleged offender, but the recipient doesn't perceive it that way, it seems. For whatever reason, people just don't seem to have the capability of handling these things, so they file lawsuits instead.

Just some thoughts,

It definitely seems to be tied to their desire to receive attention. By claiming they are offended, they think people will give them attention, which they think leads to sympathy/empathy, which they think leads to letting them get away with ****. It's a childlike mentality. Sadly enough, there are way too many people in this country who believe they are entitled. Free phone, free insurance, free education, free car, free home and they confuse these items with inalienable human rights. It's effin ridiculous.

Lest we forget that originally this country granted life, liberty and the PURSUIT of happiness. It didn't automatically grant you happiness. At the end of the day unfortunately, some people are only happy when they are miserable and some people NEED to be listened to. In my mind, humor knows no bounds.

Just my two shillings worth..

Baby boomer and gen-X "helicopter parents" and their associated PC culture in the name of not hurting anyone's feelings is my theory. A product of their raising.

Agreed, but let's talk about happy things, like the 4.10 rear gear I just picked up and can't wait to install this weekend. My fuel tank is going to hate me...

Are you suggesting that you will be intentionally offending your fuel tank (or more likely your wallet) ?

I am suggesting precisely that. Currently, my transmission and I are at an impasse and my first born rear gear occasionally gets caught in the middle through no fault of his own. Needless to say he gets bullied at car shows and red lights. We're hoping that given enough time, all of this maltreatment will make a man out of him. Toughen him up and show him the ways of the world.

Unfortunately, there is the off chance it goes the other way, he snaps an axle and joins Bernie Sander's team as a lobbyist.

Western Civilization has been gradually drifting toward anarchy with the junk philosophy of moral relativism, the “what’s right for you isn’t necessarily right for me” bullshit. Core beliefs of what’s right or wrong, acceptable or unacceptable, normal or abnormal are ignored or shunned because we’re not supposed to be judgemental. An Olympic athlete like Bruce Jenner suddenly says he wants to be a woman and we’re all supposed to congratulate him instead of saying “this guy’s gate came off it’s hinges”. Its not politically correct to have certain opinions (unless you’re a liberal). Years of living with this line of thinking has made whole generations morally lazy, because it relieves a person of the burden of making choices or decisions that are sometimes difficult or unpleasant, and emotionally weak, because they’ve never been told “you’re not supposed to...”, or “that’s ridiculous”, rendering them unable to handle criticism.

How old are you Old Mike? I am wondering if this is one of those instances where I am talking to myself in the future. I need to lay off the peyote..
