How did this happen?

Of course (cue the Twilight Zone theme). Cigar, Jack with ice and a splash...relax, contemplate the navel, ramble on forums, repeat.

Haha, actually rewatching that series on Netflix now. Swap the JD for Jameson (although I don't discriminate) and you and I are two rockers on the same shaft...scratch that last part

Only "liberals" can have opinions??? Guess you haven't been paying attention to certain Twitter "contributions" for the past two or three years?

Western Civilization has been gradually drifting toward anarchy with the junk philosophy of moral relativism, the “what’s right for you isn’t necessarily right for me” bullshit. Core beliefs of what’s right or wrong, acceptable or unacceptable, normal or abnormal are ignored or shunned because we’re not supposed to be judgemental. An Olympic athlete like Bruce Jenner suddenly says he wants to be a woman and we’re all supposed to congratulate him instead of saying “this guy’s gate came off it’s hinges”. Its not politically correct to have certain opinions (unless you’re a liberal). Years of living with this line of thinking has made whole generations morally lazy, because it relieves a person of the burden of making choices or decisions that are sometimes difficult or unpleasant, and emotionally weak, because they’ve never been told “you’re not supposed to...”, or “that’s ridiculous”, rendering them unable to handle criticism.
Glad to see I am not the only who thinks like this. To me the world now seems to nourish off of drama, the more the better. Everyone wants to have something dramatic to talk about and it is fuelled by all the news we are surrounded with. As newspapers and such struggle to keep afloat they quit reporting factual news and are constantly looking for the next conflictual story to talk about. Turn the TV on, radio, read a paper or look online or worse yet politics it’s all about the drama. People have lost their focus and need to get it back.
Well that’s my rant, need a scotch now.

For the adherents of political correctness, yes it seems only liberals are entitled to their opinions. Anyone not on board, someone voicing an opposing opinion gets scalded, or shamed. While its true there are plenty of right wing opinions being voiced (some pretty vitriolic too), for liberals no remark is too vicious or ugly because of course “dissent is a true form of patriotism”. So, they say whatever they want and strut their politically correct cred and pat each other on the back. Anyone they disagree with is automatically a racist, homophobe, islamophobe, or fascist, or whatever. Which is ironic, because they seem unaware they are becoming the fascists they claim to hate.

Could not agree with that more. If you want to read an interesting book, "The Creature from Jekyll Island". All about how the Federal Reserve Bank is and has been ruining our country with roots going back hundreds of years as well as a theory of how it will all play out in the future. Pretty enlightening stuff.

I love how this thread completely took on a mind of its own. We need more healthy, civilized conversation in society to begin with. Too much shouting, name calling, rabble rousing. There used to be and probably still is in small, non televised circles, healthy political and economic discourse.

With a generation of people with the attention span of a gnat, everything is a snapshot and they get lost having to read more than a paragraph, let alone hold a conversation comprised of anything more than one-liner movie quotes.

With all due respect, it appears to me that what conservatives say is perfectly described by what you claim liberals are doing? Especially "if not agreeing with a particular orientation".

Some people like to put people into little boxes with names on them. Easier to attack and demonize them that way, it seems. Then it also seems that conservatives like to investigate others, but do not like it when others investigate them. I noticed that when Bill Clinton was President. LOTS of tax payer money has been spent by conservatives in full-fledged investigations with little to show for it. Only people that made out on those actions was Ken Starr and his group. Wasted money? By Conservatives? Fiscally-responsible Conservatives?

And now we have a Conservative in office which advocated tax cuts and greatly expanded federal deficits have resulted. Why do we only hear negative things about an increasing deficit when Consdrvatibes are not in the Presidency? But it seems fine to do that if a Conservative is in the Presidency? I see a big double standard there. "OK if we do it, but not if YOU do it." Just my observations from a big red state.

I agree that some people like to put people into little boxes. The liberal/progressive/socialists call it identity politics. Some boxes contain people that have an elevated or protected status and they are not to be cast in poor light, criticized, or held responsible for any of their actions. Other boxes contain those who do not share the views of the enlightened, who dare to disagree. They’re to be shunned, mocked, jeered at, and denigrated.
