Reproduction C Body Battery Cables?

Sorry I do not have a pattern for 71-3. Hate spellcheck

I will get you one to copy. We need these to be commonly available. The one I send you will be completely original.

Please specify how I should address the package to ensure it gets to the right person. Given the landslide of reproduction parts you folks have signed up for recently, things must be crazy there.

Bill Evans provided the 69-70 cable. I will get specifics as to vehicle it was off of. Send samples to Quirey Quality design

Isn't the 70 different than 69s?

I looked at my (3) 69 Chryslers and my (4) 70 Chryslers and they all appear to be the same. But all of them have fuseable links too. So MrMoparCHP's (Alan's?) cables do look correct to me while the ones from Evans that QQE has do not appear correct.

I also removed the all orginal battery cables from one of my 71 Chrysler 300s and I will send them to QQE this week for reproduction (photo below). They both look the same as all of my 71 C bodies.

Actually, in studying the cables that are correct for the 69 - 70 models above, it appears the positive 1969-70 cables are really pretty much the same as the 71-73 positive cables except that the fuseable link terminals are quite different. Since the end of the fuseable link that connects to the rest of the wiring harness must mate correctly, the 71 - 73 cables must have the correct fuseable link ends. The negative cable has a second ground wire for the 71s whereas the 69 - 70 negative cable is only the one negative ground cable. So this project should be pretty straight forward really since it appears only a change to the fuseable link connectors would be needed relative to the correct 69-70 cables and addition of one more ground wire to the negative cable for 1971.

Dave, I was able to send the cables out to you yesterday, so they are scheduled to be there on Wednesday or Thursday at the latest. Hope this all works out well.
Thank you for your willingness to take on this project for so many of us.

As usual, late to the party.

@QQE
Dave, I would be in for 2 69 battery cables. Please PM me when you are ready to make them.
Thank You,
Mario

I discussed with Dave at Quirey Quality Design today the progress of the 71 battery cable project. It appears they can make the cables correctly with the connectors for the fusible links being a sticking point up until now. They have been searching high and low for those connectors and have come up with none that match. So Dave ended up buying a new 3D Printer that will make them for this project so that they will match up to the originals as we requested. Also, he said he would also strive to include the correct part number on the cable harness just like the factory did using a glued on green plastic/paper tab. So it is encouraging that they are indeed striving to make them identical in all the details to the originals.

Also, an update on the washer bottles. He said he has been having a bear of a time finding a way to make the mold for the washer bottle that would be affordable. Just recently though, he has found a machinist that said he can certainly make that mold, so that those should be broken loose from the logjam hopefully soon now. Dave also said those washer bottles will have all the correct wording on the plastic bottle and will be a licensed authentic Chrysler reproduction.

So I am pleased to hear of the progress and the firm goals in place to achieve the results we have been seeking.

From my observation it is that up to and including 1969 model year, there was a ground strap from the engine block to the firewall and no ground wire from the negative battery terminal to the body. Then from 1970 onwards, the ground strap from engine to firewall was omitted in favor of a second (smaller gauge) ground wire from the battery to the fender. The latter cable would be the one to melt through your washer bottle if it gets really really hot. But it might as well be that this change came not sooner than for the 1971 model year.

Any news?

Their staff at Quirey is still out due to the virus so their previous forecasts are behind a number of months now and it is likely they will have some delay in trying to regroup again as businesses are allowed to reopen. Just a fact of life we have to deal with at this time........................

Well, I (we) very much appreciate your efforts and "forward looking" into this issue. But I have to call it like I see it. You sent these folks your example cables in SEPTEMBER and they're still futsing around with this. How long does it take to make a minor variation to a product they already MAKE and send back to you for confirmation? I see no sense of urgency on their part with this or their other C-Bod promises.

They should send their tooling to Detroit Muscle Tech. Jim Fillmore knows how to design and develop top-shelf products and get them out there. He prototyped a splash shield for me that wasn't in his kit after I sent him a battered example and a new, perfect repro was at my door two weeks later.

Very disappointed with Quirey or whoever they are, so now I'll make my own "repro".

I have the cable done. Have to manufacture the fusible link. Trying to make it just like original. Not a matter of changing an existing cable.

The last time you piped up about this was August 30th, 2019. Thus, I've called you out about this issue today, June 6th 2020, and your response is a weak homily about a "trying" regarding a fusible link, whilst the cable is done. Done? When was done, done? It seems to me that you are taking saforwardlook for granted. He's a prince of a fellow who is trying to do good things for the rest of us, and thus perhaps you assume we'll all toe the line behind him and be quiet for a year or two, so as not to ruffle your feathers. I would happily be quiet to get a decent product in a reasonable timeframe. But no.....you're futsing with a simple fusible link! Are you kidding us? This is not rocket surgery. Make the damn thing and sell it and make some money. Or not. "Or not" is fine. We can deal with that. Don't fib about your progress. We can smell the lack of interest. Screw the C-Bods.....let's sell E-Body stuff! But wait.....many of us have E and B Bods. Oooops....poor marketing choice!

Our very exalted member saforwardlook has vouched you, but I (Trace300Hurst) believe you've let him down in a significant way. However, to your honor as a "car guy", at least you didn't pull the bullshit "covid" excuse.

Going Forward, I'll totally step away from this thread and stop my rant, and I mean that. I'll not post to this thread ever again. From here, it's up to you and your potential customers as to what you can produce for the hopeful C-Body owners.
