I have my grandmother's cool old Hamiton Beach chrome mixer. Since you guys know everything, I presume the motor is toast.

I shut it off immediately when it smoked and never used it again, probably 5 years ago. Now I am wondering is there anyway to rebuild it or does it need a new motor? I turned it on and it runs evenly from slow to high speeds, but only ran it for a few seconds.

It should be rebuildable. If you have a electric motor shop in your area, check with them. I've had motors done locally and they're usually cheaper, (and better quality) than new chinese motors.

Yes, rebuild that sucker.... these were overbuilt and will last forever. The motor might just need new brushes, new grease in the bearings, clean the commutator and check for shorts in the winding.

I have my Mom's old Oster Beehive 2 speed blender, the thing had sat under the counter I don't know how long? Looks like this.

When I plugged it in and ran it, it was slow as hell and screamed like crazy. Took it apart and polished the armature, commutator, brushes, inspected, oiled/greased, and put it aback together and it runs like a champ. It's about as easy as rebuilding a starter, if not easier! Geturdun! Good Luck

Thanks guys, great to know, it is such a cool heavy duty mixer. I was hoping to rebuild it because even if there is a new replacement motor available I figured this one is better.

I kinda wish I had my Mom's old Mixmaster too, I don't know what I'd ever use it for but was still cool and complete. The thing had like 29 speeds on it. Same color, like this!

Still have one angle grinder like this from the 50s by Ackermann & Schmitt, Inventors of the angle grinder in 1954, in use when I Need one with a bit slower rpm.

That is a neat mixer. Those things were built to last and when they quit working you could get them repaired.

That mixer is a work of art.

Yes I love the sleek chrome finish. It has some cool features like you can remove the top with a push of a button and use it as a hand mixer. My grandparents did lots of camping and I can remember her just bringing the mixer top in the camper. It also has a wind up timer that still works.

I think I have another winter project. Found the perfect YouTube video

He even commented on the broken resistors which are not available in which he had a fix. I have a feeling mine are probably bad too. Now I will see if I can locate the brushes needed.

i recently took my old stanley disc grinder apart to clean out the carbon and put a new cord on. similar to this one:

also my old westinghouse fan similar to this:

the armature is worn paper thin but it still works.
these things were built when every town had a man who earned his living with a circuit tester and a couple of screwdrivers.
