Yesterday, Friday, September 6, Dave Carr and I drove to Dunsmuir, CA, to have lunch at Yaks, a famous Burger Place hat many people stop at on I-5. I drove from Chico, an Dave from his home in the Salem, Or. area. We both drove our Newport ragtops, his a '68, mine a '70.

Happy to say both cars made it there and back with no issues, drew a number of gawkers while we were eating, and Dave and I had a great lunch together. It was a good time!

As Dave wrote on Facebook, "Let's not wait another 9 years to to this again!" Dave and I met in 2010 when he joined Steve Hobby and I in Philomath, OR, to load up the (by then heavily abused) '62 New Yorker onto Steve's trailer so he could get the cart back to Jersey. We've been trying to meet for quite some time but the fires in the past two years stopped a number of our plans. The weather, and fires, were great this time!

Yes, we took up the front!

Driving up to Yakima next month. Which exit coming from the south do you take to get to the eats?

I always stop just short of Weed to eat at the Bear Diner. I’d like a change
Black Bear in Mt. Shasta City was our original destination, as I love the Bear! But I have a buddy in Chico that raves about Yaks, so I asked Dave if he wanted to shift destinations. He, being from Oregon, had been there! I had not. He readily agreed.

My wife likes Big Bear, I can do with or without. I usually take 97 into Oregon so there’s not much until you get to K Falls. Not much along the road aside a few taco roach coaches. So, to get a good meal before hitting no mans land it has to be the Shasta area.

Driven that road many times, I understand.

Big Bear? Do you mean Black Bear Diner?

I sunburned my nose...... And, I'm not in Salem I'm in the Rogue River area in southern Oregon. But it was awful good to see a long time C-body buddy!

Great looking cars! Like the respective wheel choices, too.

The food at Yaks is awesome. If you find you need an overnight stop, check out the Railroad Park Resort also in Dunsmuir. Every room is a restored train caboose! A real favorite for my family.
