The other day I took a little drive to check out a possible project. A 69' Fury III convert that is far from perfect. She runs and drives and some quarter damage, a fair weather only car . Interior on the other hand is toast along with the top and maybe the mechanism. And oh, the non existent wiper motor doesn't help either.

I've have been searching the forums for ideas on where to look for all the puzzle pieces. But after awhile one post looks like another. So I decided to ask the geniuses here first. Any help on some of the best places to take a look at for the hard to find c body parts.

Let me restate I did not buy this Fury yet! We played the game, countered and recountred and actually close in the end. The reason I'm on the fence is the issues with the top and costs involved.

Sorry, here is a pic of the interior. The fender tag pic didn't turn out. Not many codes listed.

I have parted 3, 69 Fury III Convertible in collecting parts to restore mine. Mechanically everything can be bought easily. Interior wise the seat covers are reproduced by Legendary. Carpet can be bought from ACC, and other bits and pieces are attainable

I've owned a 69 Sport Fury vert since 1976 (my first car) parts are obtainable however of course I feel much more scarce than 40 years ago and NOS parts can be quite pricey however with patience and funds eventually thing scan still be obtained. As far as after market parts and replacement sheet metal I think they for the most part they do not exist. But I will never give up the one I have now ever !!!!!

www.abcmoparts.com has the replacement arm rests and pads. www.justdashes.com does dashpad restorations. www.smsautofabrics.com does the door cards and has the seat fabric materials. www.convertibletopguys.com has the top kits.

As a follow up, are your quarters rusted out or just damaged?

what are the problems with the top that have you concerned?

I couldn't get a real good look. Only got to investigate the drivers side. And with tires going flat had a hard time getting under. The damage is a larger crease just behind drivers door down low. I think it should be able to pull or hammer it out. Kind of afraid of what lurks underneath with that "quality" paint job.

When I asked how the top was the owner stated he hadn't tried to put it up this year. The last time he tried it the top started to fall apart and I thought he said it jammed up.
My concern was the cost involved in making everything work and look as it should. Being on tighter budget because I'm no Richard Rawlings.

A crease is usually repairable assuming the thing does not fall apart because it is mostly bondo. The top mechanism is usually pretty sturdy on these cars and I would suspect the owner was talking about the canvas falling to pieces. If you can get the trunk open, you can usually see a bondo job from the inside as the 'verts usually rusted out the trunk floor first from leakage around the back window. A seller that does not even bother to put air in the tires does not sound like a very motivated individual.

A few pictures would go a Long way in us helping you out. Trunk, interior , outside and engine bay. With attention paid to perceived problem areas. Good luck.

Tail lights on the 67 Fury are pretty much made of nonobtainium. You’ll be looking high and low. The rectangular chrome surrounds are the same. The headlight trim is also hard to find.

could be anything causing binding. the top is what holds the mechanism tight so it could be fighting against itself. there could be a weak or stuck cylinder. all of the pieces are individually replaceable so it really shouldn't be much to figure it out.

Thanks everyone for the knowledge drop. That's helping to curtail some of the fears I had of repair/replacing the top. And I completely spaced popping the trunk. I had an instructor tell us to never to restore a convertible, they're a money pit, never get your money back out of them.

I'll share a few photos from seller ad. When I took a look it wasn't this clean, had alot of gravel dust over the whole body and interior. Again sorry my phone won't let me post the pics I took of the dent and fender tag. If I do purchase her I'll get them with a real camera.

its a 69....... 69 stuff is not that hard to find

what color was it originally ?
did u get a picture of the body tag, enough guys here can help you decode it.
i see white paint over everything under the hood so that would make me a little wary before handing over any $.

I am guessing somebody probably took this car to Miracle for one of their cheepo paint jobs. The paint work under the hood is about as bad as it gets and all of that mess will probably peel in the not to distant future. Makes me suspicious as to what the fresh paint is hiding. 318 car with few options, I would give it a value with a solid floor set of about $3800 due to the rotten top and crappy paint. To do a fair evaluation, one needs to get eyes underneath to check floors and frame rails; also needs to have the top frame checked out, as long as it is not rusted out or badly broken, that can usually be repaired. If the frame, top frame and floors are rusted, this is about a $2.5k car or less.

Dave

when you check for rust, check the floors, trunk floor including the rear rails, lower quarters , lower fenders, edge of the trunk lid and cowl around the wiper motor area. these areas are all repairable, but it might help with negotiations. the under hood wiring looks suspect but it is hard to tell from pictures.
