1972 newport, was running really smooth, but I was having trouble with misfire on startup. I replaced the points and the misfire is gone. Gapped to .017 and timing is correct.
However now the engine kind of "Surges" It speeds up and slows down small amounts on idle, and about once a minute almost stalls out. It is not a fuel issue, It is a spark issue, where should I start?

Run a resistance check on the points. About 30% of the Chicom condensers are defective right out of the box. Check to be sure the cap is properly seated. Be sure all the plug wires are in the proper firing order.

Did you check if the vacuum advance canister can hold a vacuum? Maybe a ripped diaphragm.

Since when did any 72 Mopar have a points ignition? I just found my answer, click through it! With that said, I'll ask you. Why are you still running a antiquated system when they're so many better options available? Upgrade it to Electronic ignig and be done with it. Good Luck
1972 Imperial & Chrysler Ignition System Service Book (Session 292)

Success! I read part of that ignition book from Stubs300, and various points ignition posts. Just to eliminate faulty parts, i swapped out my new parts with old. It was the brand new condenser. What a waste.
Thank you all for the help.

Take it back to CarCrap or Blottozone and ***** like hell. It won't help, but with a 30% defect rate on new Chicom condensers, maybe they will get tired of the complaints and find a new source, at worst you might get a new condenser that works.

I sure will, I have seen many people having trouble with them. It was Carquest from Advance Auto Parts. I knew it was an electrical problem because I could smell gas. I'm glad I found out what it was before I started buying stuff that didn't need replaced.

I had a 69 Ford Fairlane that would run like crap if the condenser wasn't securely grounded inside the dist..

Contact Halifaxhops. I bought a bunch of original in box sets. Very reasonable too.

Good point. Usually if a condenser is good I don't replace it for that reason. All I used was the points. I have used BlueStreak points and condensed with no problem . Actually it maybe a BlueStreak condenser still in there with the old new points.

Do you know how old they are? Capacitors dry out inside over time. Anything after 40-50 years is a gift.
If your capacitor is leaking (air in) it is already going bad. I think the insulating material in the new Chinese ones is poor to begin with.
Electronic ignition is not a cure. Especially with the junk they are selling as replacement parts nowadays. Fact is that system has not been on a production vehicle for 30 years, all the good parts are used up. I'll stick to points, easier to carry spares. If your Chrysler ecu craps out on Sunday on the way home from a cruise your on the hook unless you have a spare. All the chain stores can get you one tomorrow or the next day, thanks. I'll have my points condenser and ballast resistor change before the pimple face millinal in the parts store gets done entering your info.

I like how you criticize yourself with what you say about electronic ignig; but yet how do you know that those cheap *** chi-com get out of jail points & parts sitting in the glove box are going to get you going again? You don't! Such a hypocrite sorry to say!

Look at the back side of your Chinese ecu and tell me it is good or bad. I look at points and I know the are flat or not, spring is springing. As mentioned by OP condensers are crap, I have a old one in my glovebox.
Those ignitions were better, now not a viable replacement for tried and true points.
