440 Dual Quad or Max Wedge?

WOW!!! Information overload right here...I really thought a couple grand and bolt on and roll, I am definitely going to reconsider all this I just put on my Quick Fuel 750 on the stock intake maybe I'll just look for an upgraded intake and keep it simple, I really need it to be bulletproof reliable as I want to lug my lil camper around and be a cool old dude..lol thanks guys I really appreciate the lesson I needed a reality check for sure!!

Ahh. That’s more info.

Yes, if you want drivability more than pop-the-hood bling, then stick with a single four barrel.

To be honest, my biggest regret with the tunnel ram is that I had to cut a hole in the hood for clearance. (I still have the original hood-I cut a spare). If you spend the time to tune the carbs correctly (especially the accelerator pump circuits) it is actually very reliable. I have made a few road trips (500 miles one way) and when I behaved, I squeezed 13 mpg out of it. Plenty of power to spare, could smoke the tires at 50mph in 3rd gear. It is a blast to drive, but admittedly is not for everyone. It is not inconspicuous and I worry if I park it someplace that I can't keep an eye on it. I will eventually tone things down and put the flat hood back on with a more conservative intake/carb setup, but I want to have some supercharged fun first. If you want something 'long term', stick with a single carb and a hot rear gear setup. (FYI-single plane manifolds are very streetable, i.e. TM-7). These days, anything 'old' has built in WOW factor, so you don't need to get too carried away (but where's the fun in that).
jus sayin

I've heard good things about Quick Fuel. I don't know what your current gear ratio is but if you plan on dragging a trailer around and also want some pep you should look into gear in the 3:23-3:55 range. Keep your stock intake for now.

I would have to assume it is all stock right now as I haven't touched anything under there but the shocks..That is down the line I was told I'd need to upgrade or rebuild the tranny and rear end to be dead set reliable.

FWIW, you don't need anything more than an aftermarket 4bbl carb (Holley or Edelbrock - your choice).

I put a Tunnel Ram on my 65 Fury convertible. It was originally just for kicks. I liked it so much, I kept it on. I am running a manual valve body transmission. If you are running a stock automatic, you will likely need to switch to a cable style kickdown linkage to make the setup easier. I am amazed at how well this thing runs on the street. At the track, it just could NOT get any traction (it was marginal before). You will definitely get some serious looks.

Funny you should mention that...
This is what is going to replace the tunnel ram on my 65 Fury.
Too much is not enough....

My apologies for any thread hijacking. Just trying to help.

Yessir that will be next..i dig the victor manifold but i haveta research a bit..i was told 375 but have no verification

CM27K7 - 350 hp
CM27L7 - 375

Also the boss under your plug wires at the front of the valley will be stamped 440 HP if it is the L code 375 horse TNT. The exhaust manifolds would also be different. This is assuming that the engine and manifolds are still original to the car. The vast majority were the base 350 hp K code.

The Edelbrock RPM intake will clear the hood with lower profile air cleaners and work well with a stock to well built 440. The Victor is much taller and would completely turn your low end and mid range torque to $hit on a stock 440 and still is bad for low to mid range on a well built 440. Even a stroker will suffer a torque loss in the RPM range that you want most in a street driven car. The older Edelbrocks, like the Torker and Torker II would be a feasible choice if you really think you want a single plane. The Torker II is still being produced, but I still recommend the RPM dual plane.

If you are looking for some wow factor and some extra power without a major effort, an Edelbrock CH28 and a pair of their carbs will do the trick. Summit will sell you the complete kit, airfilter to intake gasket.

If you are looking for more steam without sacrificing drivability, there is no replacement for displacement. Build a 505 at 9:1 compression with aluminum cylinder heads and a cam with mild duration and lift with 114 degree lobe separation and it will make 600 ft/lbs on regular gas and idle and drive like your grandmother's New Yorker.

I think that would be a 361 cross ram for 1960 rated at 310 horses with the D-500 package. There was a second D-500 package offered for police use that had the 383 cross ram setup at 330 horses. Adding the FItech setup would probably have improved performance as the cross ram setup with carbs were very difficult to keep tuned and balanced.

IDK If the car was originally a 413 or not but that’s what this motor was. The owner wouldn’t tell me exactly what was done but I would consider it more than mild but not quite hot. The owner told me that it ran very very good.
