I'm getting a passenger mirror that has a crack in the glass. I have an extra drivers side mirror. Can I swap the glass from one into the other?

The cracked one.

Maybe. You can’t swap the metal parts because they are reversed, plus the drivers side has the cables going into the metal backing behind the glass.

I’ve looked into this. The only way I see to do it is to get the glass out of the metal surrounding/backing piece. You can see the edge of it around the glass.

Pics are a Right side. The cast stand up piece is backwards of a left mirror, won’t fit on the right.

Last pic you can see the 3 notches for the cables of a left remote, they go through the silver metal backer and are covered by the glass.

I will try a heat gun and see if the glass adhesive will soften..I know the metal parts won't swap...but I wasn't sure if the mirror plate would swap without removing the glass itself.

The problem is that the old glass is retained by the metal backing being slightly crimped over the mirror. You can't get them out in one piece.

I've bought replacement mirrors from this guy: https://www.internetglassnetwork.com His mirror glass is the same as the OEM. I've tried the replacement mirrors that you see on eBay and the like and his are way superior and he cuts them to the size you want.

If you talk to him on the phone... He's a little.. Ummm... Different. OK guy, just eccentric, but actually interesting.

Glue the new mirror in with silicone adhesive. This one is from my Barracuda.

I've thought about getting a right side mirror and then putting the appropriate size diminishing mirror on top of it. The 68 I had previously had the right hand mirror, but it was barely usable. I couldn't ever get it adjusted into a good position. I thought it was me, but guys here have said that is a common issue due to where they are mounted.

It would be nice to get something concave (fish eye) a bit to replace that flat glass.
