1978 New Yorker Salon

Glad you like the car Ray. Enjoy.
all the credit to you chief.

you built this car and in my mind, and perhaps to some others in "C-Body Nation" ti will always be "Kip's Car". I am just some guy taking care of it for a while.

While I own it, it will never sit outside, never see snow or salt, get abused in any way, etc ... and when its time to move on from my care it will be as good as the day I got it from you. Won't let it go until I am sure the next caretaker will do the job like the three of us before him/her.

Yeah, i am thinking about moving away from the GV setup as the car doesn't have the same duty requirements you had .. but she's a banshee man :).

I didn't encounter that top-end thing you told me about ..ran outta speedometer and the thing was still pullin' hard. I'll keep ya posted.

thanks again!

4 P235 75R 15 INCH WHITE WALL TIRES (1" 1/2 WW BAND) THICK FAT WIDE GANGSTER NEW | eBay

Is this the tire spec i need for the Salon? "1 1/2" or "1 1/4" width from factory?

Btw, i hate the description "gangster white walls" for these tires above. they aint "gangsta whites" at all.

At least as I knew them growing up in the 70's when William DeVaughn was "diamond in the back, sunroof top, diggin' the scene with a gangsta lean" in the hood below :). Those were gangster whites .. copied right from the 30's-50's

Big difference than the Salon

Those 1.5 Wide whites nail the factory correct look. I need a set for my Imperial.

Go on ebay motors and enter what you're looking for. I've bought a set of 1.6" whitewalls from one of the companies that sells and a set of 1" that are on my '75 Imperial....driven 1600 miles+- and they ride very well! I've always said an 80K mile tire will take nail as easy as a 40K tire!

Agreed, and it's all company equipment and company drivers. That can make all the difference.
Money makes the difference. Pay a driver $$$ you get a good driver. If you only pay enough to warm the seat cushion that's what you get. Ask Swift, Prime, Werner, they will tell you there is a driver shortage and they have to take what they can get. I'll bet UPS does not have a driver shortage.
Sorry for the Hi-jack, back to the program.

I was gearing that remark more toward the difference between using a broker and dealing direct with the shipper.

Gotcha, Brokers SUCK.

Drivers still need more pay:poke::soapbox:

I put you back to green.
I know you you were worried about it.:poke:

Before a ride to get gas and chow ... couple more weeks out before winter hibernation (no Gear Vendor "surgery", if at all, till spring :))

I am kinda liking the 3/4 whites on this car. I havent pulled he trigger on the factory wide whites yet. informal polling here says "go wide" (a group who would know) .. my neighbor weighed in emphatically (a decade younger than me .. didnt know this car at all) was 3/4 whites.

thoughts?

The car in the first picture looks better. The broader whites give the car more presence and a more solid look.

I think it would look good in either of these widths. I, myself (worth at least 2 cents), wouldn't go any wider than one of these.
