68 Newport with twist

Headliner getting buttoned up and dash getting shaped. Plan to shave it some more and cover with fleece and resin. Then repaint all dash in original frosted med blue

Engine getting cleaned up and painted. Used chrysler torquoise spray and am very pleased with color and quality of paint. Ss hardware will be used on external covers so want to paint parts seperately

Drip rail cap mods. Removed rear trim and adapted front cap to fit rear on fabbed drip rail. Allowed me to remove rear trim at roof transition. So tired of cleaning under there.

Dash with polyester cloth stretched and glued down over repaired foam.
That's 2 coats of resin over it. Plan is 1 more coat after little trimming. There will be some filler required to line up to dash and the all painted to match original. Next is lower pad and rear side panels for seats

Looked at lower pads.....realized they needed to be done.....so removed them.
Realized dash was nicely finished under them...just have to fill holes with job weld and smooth. Much easier. Stripped dash completely as well. Pics to come.

Put a third coat on bottom of dash the other day so added a third on top after it dried. Had not tried this technique before on dashes and am quite happy with outcome. It even flexes a little like original if you squeeze it.

Roughed up inside of holes, beveled the edges and applied masking tape mold on rear of hole. JB weld stuffed and more masking tape to mold front. Comes out almost ready to use.
Really think the earlier dash treatment was cleaner and simpler. Dont like add on padding myself.

The 67 Chrysler dash did not have the lower padding.
You are a better man for removing the dash pad without removing the windshield and dash frame. Getting at the pad's bolts I bet were PITA
The steering wheel you are thinking about are not cheap new or used. Thanks to all the 68-70 B bodies

I made my spitfire one but used original metal for base.
Pricing having cut from 1/4 ss and then bending to offset. Like the riveted look on wood so would do that.
Have seen a few Grant's that are close

I always liked these Mopar "recall" steering wheels that were an option on some of the '67s (?). Probably out of reasonable price range, but the style is very cool and looks a bit like the Grant wheel shown. Larger hub though and I've seen them in woodgrain and black.

It would be very interesting to see a steering wheel "build".
