OD for 71 Fury

The gear vendors unit behind the 727 is a good option. Especially science there isn't much mods. Though in order to to the BB swap it would require the BB bellhousing.. This 727 would have to be rebuilt anyhow. I'm at close to 4k 2700$ for the gear vendors , problably 800 for a good build (atleast 400 for soft parts and seals ect ) then driveshaft and ect. Then if/when I go BB another xxx$ for the tranny and I'm not 100% sure the gear vendors unit is the same unit SB-BB..... So many thoughts and options

Gv unit is the same. You could reuse guts in a bb case or sell off the SB 727 to recoup some cost

Yes the GV will fit SB or BB 727.

If it was me doing a GV, I'd start with a 4x4 727 minus the transfer case and get the GV "shorty" kit. That way your transmission overall length only grows a few inches if any. A short tail shaft motorhome trans is another option to keep trans length down.

I have an a500 living behind my turbo 383 boosted at 12psi now.... They must not be total junk...
No floorplan work, but yes a new cross member.
That said, if you're staying sb now and want bb later I'd consider the GV.
Any pictures of that turbo 383?
The 500 is probably better, based on the 904, will take all the upgrades of any torqueflite and the overdrive ratio is not obscenely tall, if memory serves.

Check my profile garage.
.69od with lockup. 3.91. low gear set, was great NA but too much low gear when boosted

A 4wd 727 may have the 4 pinion planetary in it as well, free beef.

My transmission guy used to own the first AA/SS to run in the 8's. He told me there is no advantage in strength with the 4 pin planet. He said they used to remove 2 of the 4 and they never broke a planet but they shredded the aluminum splines out of a bunch of them.

When I was having him build the trans for my stroker he said run 4 pins if you have them but don't waste any time searching for them if all you have is 3 pins.

What you might also find in a truck case are better clutch packs with an extra friction disc. It wasn't just Hemis that got the Hemi transmission parts.

To the engine? Absolutely nothing but pay attention to my tune.
Trans is somewhat built as my guy builds race 904's since that's the closest thing

So you're running the engine on 12 psi completely stock? As for the trans I'm in the process of swapping in a 4 speed to handle the power

Yes. I'm putting in a different engine now, but I didn't hurt the old one. Cast pistons, oem .020 head gaskets and all.

Did you end up running an aftermarket cam or the stock cam? Because my 383 is a low compression 2 barrel motor with a tiny cam

Comp 268h, basically the Magnum cam. 2bbl cam should give better mpg and you can boost to get hp you want. I was actually going to just use a 2bbl cam but it had more rust pits than I was comfortable using. New engine has a little more cam but that's just what's in it and I'm not going to mess with it

Just thought I'd chime in.
My '71 Fury has the 440/727 combo. I went with 3.23s and a DrDiff Suregrip. The 727 I'm having upgraded with a low gearset from A&A transmission. It changes the 1st gear from 2.45 to 2.77 and i believe 2nd from 1.45 to 1.54. 3rd 1:1 with 3.23s will still give good cruising rpms. To compare 1st gear would effectively "feel" like 3.6:1. Also running a 5400rpm governor .
Just another option maybe
Good luck!

Those changes should make the car much better around town and will probably increase mpg, launching that heavy boat much better.
