When are you considered old?

When I stopped in to pay my car insurance a couple of weeks ago, I was asked if I received anything for AARP yet. At that time I hadn't, but last week a application letter came in the mail. The whole reason she asked is with AARP membership I can get a discount on my car insurance. So I guess I will be sending them my $16 dollars and the application, She figures I can save up to $200 a year.

Another reason they ask about your insurer is to determine “Primary”.
My employers insurance was my primary. My Medicare Advantage plan is secondary now to my auto insurance.

FWIW, AARP discounts are usually about the same as AAA discounts. But once in a while they beat the discount for hotel rooms.

At 51 I am now the Old/ Seasoned guy at work. I have 30 years in there. When I started, there were a number of “old timers” my parents age and then a number that were 7-14 years older that have now retired. It is unreal that I am thinking I could retire in about 5 years.
Right now I am still having fun. After 5 more years if it is still fun I might stick around.
Working with the next generation keeps you young. You just have to accept that they work and think differently than your generation. Diversity makes the world go round. The key is to be a good mentor and not stick your head in the sand. I can still learn new tricks from these kids and they can learn from me.

The last number years I’ve had the “Old Guy” label. Actually my whole division fell into that category. Whenever the marketing and branding people came through to shoot video or photos they move us old guys out and put the youngins in our seats. Really pissed me off when they sit there at my workstation showing off MY engineering work on the screen. The youngsters sure know how to run a PC but are clueless when it comes to designing anything on one. “You got something I can copy?” Seriously? Another reason I retired early.

So what do you guy's think, at what age are you old? I just turned 50 today so am I actually old now to go with my old man with a hat status? When I was in my teen's I thought 50 was old, but now that I am 50, 85 or 90 looks old.
Is it just a matter of your only as old as you feel? Any thoughts?

When your friends start dropping from old age and cancer...

Many days, I feel old. As a retired USAF crewdawg (aircrew), I've seen a bunch of guys my age drop dead in the last couple of years. Painful ****, like ALS and CF. I'm not 60 yet. Pretty sure there is a strong correlation between the job and maladies people I flew with have endured, but that'll probably never be made public, if true.

Yeah. I feel old.

Happy Birthday Scotty Boy!!

An elderly gentleman walks into an upscale cocktail lounge. He is in his mid-seventies, very well-dressed, hair well-groomed, great looking suit,
hankie in his lapel and smelling slightly of an expensive after shave. He presents a very nice image.

Seated at the bar is a classy looking lady in her mid-seventies. The sharp old gentleman walks over and sits alongside her.
He orders a drink and takes a sip.
He slowly turns to the lady and says:

"So, tell me . . . do I come here often?"

LMFAO. You mean you've never waded fer Blue Gill'z Will? Chase that spool for ah bit when it startz bobbin', grab it and in one smooth motion throw the spool and the critter up on the bank. Go fix that one, re-bate and lob it out again and start wadin' in after it. I'm good but I can't make this s**t up, Jer

Let's see, in December I'll turn 66 however I do not consider myself old. I can still get around a ship like anyone else younger than me and in many cases better. Meanwhile my 10 year old son thinks I am old compared to all his 10 year old friend's fathers.

On the bright side my wife just had her 40th birthday and she doesn't look yet 30. She, consequently, won't let me act old when it comes to her desires at night. Sacrifices one makes...

I will say it sure beats being between 50-60, single male, and lonely. She had her party at a night club. The last time I went to a club in the U.S. was in S.F. around 1997. Last time in the Philippines in 2008. So me, 20 Filipinas, and one other male husband who was thrilled to hear I was born in the Bronx and a Yankee fan. During the course of the night I observed people in the crowd particularly the men. I can tell you I'm glad I am not part of that group of men looking to get laid that night and having zero luck. Now that would make me feel old.
