Sorry Rip. Fram is my filter of choice. 50 plus years, never a failure like some others.

I am surprised by this. Years ago, I had a FRAM filter blow up on me during startup. It was obvious the internal relief valve was inferior / defective. Since then, I have seen a number of independent tests that determined FRAM filters are inferior to most other oil filters in almost every respect - especially when compared to the WIX filters.
 
As much as I hate it, I have to leave this project sit for awhile. Time to start gearing up for Carlisle. I have to tow Connie home and get her outfitted for the trip. I plan on being at the fair grounds by Tuesday the 9th, and allow 4 days to travel, so I leave on July 5th. gives me a week to prep.
I'll be traveling to Michigan from Carlisle and may not be back to Foley until Sept.
So exactly how long do you plan on being in Michigan? Dates? We would absolutely love a good visit with you Will.:)

Rip, I have experienced filter failures like you describe in the past, but never with a Fram filter.
I'm not sure the "independent tests" you saw were reliable. I don't trust anything consumer reports say. Mostly it's auto parts countermen and computer wizards who neigh say fram filters. Most of them are indoctrinated or just believe everything they hear or read. Not to say other filters are inferior but I stand by my years of professional experience with a product that has been consistently reliable.
Walk through most race shops, drag racing, circuit racing etc, and see what filters are stocked on their shelves.
 
FWIW, here is a filter test that seems to be pretty good in that it cut up the filters and gave some unbiased results. I happen to use a NAPA Gold (Wix) filter and I'll stick with that. I've seen Fram filters used about everywhere, so I'm not going to say anything good or bad. My opinion is that you need to use something decent and change it every time you change the oil. I always liked this comparison because they cut up filters that we all use on our Mopars.

Very interesting John. Kinda proves my point.
High density filters used in an older application can "load" up and reduce oil flow, hence lower oil pressure to the engine. Something the Am-Sol filters are know for.
The key is, rather than construction materials, is to change the filter on a regular basis, I think.
 
If you change the oil often enough, even a roll of toilet paper works.

I think there's a happy medium somewhere... I don't think a filter built to meet a price point so they can be sold in Walmart is the answer, but I also don't think it's as big a deal as some think. It's like oil... Buy something decent and change it often.

Wix is good but I'll be damned if I'm paying $56 over the 31 & 34 $ for a Baldwin or a Fleetguard. That's just too much difference, and Wix car filters are heading the same way. Too much NASCAR money.
The Balwin filter stays more true to the way Cummins designed the filter originally.

I got a certicard with the Polara. I was in the owners manual in the glove box and had no owner info imprinted on it.
I can find no card pocket, or indication of one, on the inner fender or core support, which is where I've seen them in the past.
Was 67 the last year a certicard was supplied? Does anyone with a 67 have a under hood holder on their car?

They were used 1964 to 1968. On the engine side of the core support or either inner fender up to ‘68 and glove box in ‘68.
 
IIRC on the '67 Fury that I had, it was on the drivers side of the core support by the battery.
 
Curious. No pocket or holder 0n my 67. Late build, July 67, may have something to do with it.
Lots got done today. Dash stripped bare, interior A pillar garnish polished. Will hit it hard again tomorrow.
 
Spent the day working on the Polara today again. Dash is painted, some instrument and switch's detailed.
I installed a NOS clock that I found, into the gage cluster. I now realize there must be a "clock set" cable. There is a stem and threaded ferral on the rear of the clock. Anyone have one? Will post in the wanted thread.
 
Starting to look like a Polara again.....

the clock reset I need connects to the back of the clock and the set knob comes out at the bottom of the dash. (pictured in sec 8 in the FSM). Likely any 67-68 C body with this type of clock will have this cable. Perhaps other years also.
Anyone have a parts car with one?
