I have some kind of blackish spots on the white vinyl on my 68 New Yorker.
Tried cleaning it but cant get it to come off.
So my question is, is it white all the way thrue the material or is the white painted on a black base?
I havent tried any of the more aggressive cleaning products on it before i know if its dirty or if the color has started coming loose.
Wanted to check with you guys who have more experience with these cars.

have a great weekend!

IMO, if your Top is clean! It’s not dirt / spots. It’s discoloring from age. My White Top on my 75 NYB is doing it to. Try using liquid shoe polish in white of course. A bandaid fix.

You put anything too harsh on it, and it's gonna look good for a very short time. Then the cracks start, then the rust. :wideyed:

I would probably leave it go, or just use a conditioner for vinyl and forget the spots.

To answer your question it is white through and through not white on black base.
The black is dirt.
Using diluted Simple Green and a hand/nail brush scrub an inconspicuous spot. Toothbrushes work in tight areas against the drip rails.
Rinse afterwards with soap and water to neutralize the simple green.
Use Mother's Protectant first applying with a microfiber towel and buff with a separate microfiber towel.
It is worth a try and if it does not clean it, leave it alone and no harm done.
I did this to my 68 New Yorker when I owned it. She has been gone for 9 years now..

Simple Green, a little dwell time and a scrub brush worked on my white conv. top.

Thanks for the help.
I will try the simple green tomorrow :)
