Nice looking car. It doubt it will sell at that asking price.

Dave

VERY nice - if as nice as the photos show, it's a good deal too. Hope it finds a good home, and won't re-appear on a flipper's website for $15-$17K two weeks later...……..

This car has been on the market since at least late summer. If memory serves, the price has dropped a bit since the last time I looked.

So with a complete paint job and all-new interior, I wonder if the vinyl top is original or new (it only says "mint")?

"Radio was rebuilt but is non operational"....what's up with that.

It still doesn't work. Probably better to not even mention that as whoever worked on it may have screwed it up even worse if they did not know what they were doing.

I like it. Even if you could Jew him down to $7k seems like a deal to me.
You might be right, but it has been for sale for months now, so either there are some issues with the car or the guy will not budge on his asking price. These are usually about a $5.5-$6k car if solid, but a detailed inspection would be needed to verify the condition.

Not that it matters much, but non-rosette rivets on the VIN tag would bug me.

Good Eye! Yea something fishy here, That would be a red flag back in this cars era, I really don't think today the State Police Auto Theft Task Force would care or dedicate much time for this oldie, but you never know.

(edit) Maybe the reason for the "BEING SOLD WITH A TEXAS BONDED TITLE".

Curiosity got the best of me, I looked it up. "A bonded tile is issued when adequate proof of ownership has not been established."
In other words the seller did not have a bill of sale, title or other proof of ownership and presumably posted a bond to get a "Bonded Title".

Run very fast from this one.

Dave

That may be worse than a "no title."

The VIN matches the build sheet. Could that be fake?

Somebody should ask for photos of the Door tag + engine VIN.

Otherwise, the ALL CAPS is a red flag to me, lol!

Based on how the ad is laid out and the adjectives used to describe the car and the ride I would say it is being sold by a flipper right now. Not necessarily a high end flipper but a flipper nonetheless.

From Texas DMV...
TxDMV.GOV - Bought a vehicle without a title?

If you receive incomplete or incorrect evidence of ownership or have lost the evidence of ownership and cannot contact the seller for the necessary documentation, you may have the option of using the bonded title procedure to transfer of ownership. Here are the steps to do so.

  • 1- Determine Your Eligibility
  • 2- Purchase a Surety Bond
  • 3- Apply for a Bonded Title
In order to qualify, you must be:

  • A Texas resident, or
  • Military personnel stationed in Texas.
The vehicle must be in your possession and cannot be considered abandoned, junked, stolen, or in any other pending lawsuits. Although not required to be operational, it must be a complete vehicle including a frame, body and motor or if a motorcycle, a frame and motor.

If you meet the above eligibility requirements you may take or mail the following documents and a $15.00 administrative fee (TxDMV accepts cash, checks, and money orders as payment) to the nearest TxDMV Regional Service Center:

  • A Statement of Fact for Bonded Title (Form VTR-130-SOF)
  • Any supporting evidence of ownership (Bill of Sale, Invoice, Cancelled Check, etc.)
  • Acceptable photo ID
Out of State Vehicles
If the applicant is a Texas resident, but the evidence indicates that the vehicle is an out of state vehicle, the vehicle identification number must be verified by a Texas certified Safety Inspection Station (Vehicle Inspection Report).

Additionally, if the vehicle has never been titled or registered in Texas then a vehicle identification number inspection is required from an auto theft investigator on the Law Enforcement Identification Number Inspection (Form VTR-68-A). Inquire with local law enforcement agencies such as the police department or sheriff’s office to determine when and where your local law enforcement offers these inspections. These inspections are not offered by the TxDMV. Upon completion of the inspection, the inspecting officer will provide you with a Form VTR-68-A.

Upon Approval
If your documents are approved, you will be issued a letter stating the amount of the bond you must purchase. The amount is equal to 1 ½ times the value of the vehicle. The department will determine the value of the vehicle using:

  • The Standard Presumptive Value (SPV) from our web site as the primary source
  • If a SPV is not available, National Auto Dealers Association (NADA) reference guide will be used, or
  • If a value is not available either through SPV or NADA, a licensed motor vehicle dealer or insurance adjuster may appraise the vehicle on a form provided by TxDMV (Form VTR-125).
For Vehicles 25 Years Old or Older
  • TxDMV will determine and assign the bond value
  • Appraisals less than $4,000 will not be accepted

It would be hard to fake a VIN number on the build sheet. Of course someone could have this car's twin as a junker and transferred the build tag, build sheet and VIN to a "hot" car. Proof would be if the hidden VIN number under the trunk lid weatherstrip did not match the rest of the numbers. Would seem to be a lot of trouble for a 50 year old car but stranger things have happened.

Didn't know that, is the VIN stamped (on the lid) on '73 cars as well?
