I may just try to sell my Fury so I can try and get it. It’s just 30 minutes away. Oh, sweet Jesus, what a car!

I am selling my 1960 Dodge Matador 4 door sedan. It is time for this car to go to someone who has the time and resources to enjoy this beautiful classic car. This was the car I drove it in high school. I have owned this car since 1989.

This car will need some restoration. It will be it's third restoration.
This Matador came with factory air conditioning, Super Red Ram 361 V-8 (295 Hp.), 3 speed automatic with push button transmission. I am selling for $8500.00 or better offer.

As I've grown older, my appreciation for early 60's Dodges and Plymouths has grown a thousand fold. That's why I got my '62 Polara. They're now gorgeous IMHO. I always likes the '62 Furys and Belvederes too. Best of luck, hope you get it and cherish it.

That's sweeeeeet!! Good luck!!!
I gotta admit...thought it was an AMC Matador when I read the title!

My dad had the AMC version in the late 1970s. I think he bought it new. He must have really liked AMC because he got my mother a Gremlin.

I sent the person selling it an email.

Go and look it over. A concern for a car that has been "restored" twice before would what all has been done to it. If the engine for example has been rebuilt twice, it will not likely be a candidate for a third rebuild. If the car is an original NC car, it probably will not have extensive rust repairs which is a big plus. This car is priced about at market for a condition #3 vehicle that is rust free. In any case, it is always fun to window shop if nothing else.

Thank you for the advice. I sent an email asking if the car is in running condition. Are the 361’s parts still available? Would parts like brakes be Polara parts?

The car is near me in the mountains. We do have salt on the roads maybe half a dozen times a year. The car is in a town considered a temperate rain forest. I can hope for no rust.

361 and 383 share the same block, crank, heads, carbs, manifolds etc., only pistons are different, so parts should be readily available. A few RB 383 engines were known to have found their way outside of the Chrysler line, in which case most of the engine parts would not interchange, but that is not a concern for a 361 equipped car. Transmissions and rear ends are the same also for the 3rd members. In 1960, the mopar line would be equipped with either a 2 speed powerflite or a 3 speed torqueflite, both were cast iron cases and will not interchange with later aluminum torqueflites. As a general rule, full sized Mopars excluding the Imperial have the same brake components in any given year. This car will have keyed rear brake drums and ball and trunion u-joints, both can be difficult to find.

The entire 1960 Dodge line up was just awesome, brilliant designs.

Nice car, but go look at it before you start falling too much in love with it.

The rear wheel opening shows some rot, possibly made worse by having two "restorations" done. It's spent some time outside, judging by the leaves on the top of the heater box, it's been outside at least a year.

Thank you for the reality check

Two things stand out for it. 1.) the 361 engine, and 2.) FACTORY AC. Most of these came with 318's or 6-cyl. as the base motor. Not many Dodges left the factory in 1960 with factory AC. Those two things would have to be a BIG deal to you to pay that amount for it. Nevertheless, it DOES look pretty nice, but definitely give it a thorough once over.

it will likely not happen. Wife says Fury has to go. I listed Fury on CL, so I will see what happens. I will only look if I have $ so I am not wasting someone’s time.

what might help is there are not many Mopar fans in my area. Ford and Chevy people mostly. So, it might be for sale for a while.

Low demand could be good, and the price may very well fall given time. The Forward Look folks would probably be VERY interested (if they know about it), might be worth the "fleet turnover," as you just do NOT see them.

My Dad had one when he worked at the GM plant. Plant leadership pressed him to trade the car on Pontiac, but the dealer couldn't match the price for an equivalent top of the line Pontiac for the price of the Dodge, so he kept it. That and my Dad's buddy with a brand new Pontiac couldn't catch the used Dodge when they raced.

Did you buy it, Joseph? The CL link says "Listing Expired". I hope it was worth nailing-down; it reminds me of my long-gone white '61 Newport named Moby.

No I did not buy it. I have the guys number. I put my Fury for sale so I could get that car. So far only got an offer to trade for a 66 Thunderbird.
