Vintage NASCAR

it didn't go as fast as you'd think . but way faster then they were running in the day , the hemi had just made the seen , for a year or so enough the petty's were trying different stuff to make them run in the front .
With that supercharger, it would have to be faster than a normally aspirated engine. I can't imagine that supercharger screaming as it was sucking air coming down yge back straight at Daytona !

Didn't the supercharged Dodge go 183 or so, back then?
LeeRoy Yarbrough drove it. Ray Fox built it.

I have no idea. I didn't know that car existed until zi saw it on here.
Sure would have liked to have heard it run, though.
I knew it was a Ray Fox car by the number 3.

Ford had that idea back in 57 with their supercharged Customs and Thunderbirds but with quite a bit less hp of course.

My heart just skipped a beat when I just now ran across this picture!!
Screen shot it and going to have it printed and blown up for my garage!
My favorite Chrysler and is the same year as the one I'm putting together.
Are there anymore pictures of this car, or any other 1961 Chryslers floating around out there?
Any at speed possibly?

Briggs Cunningham was an old School sports man. Successful at least in car racing and yachting IIRC, his greatest defeat was to never win the 24hrs of LeMans.
He did have an impressive vintage car collection as well including one Bugatti Royale.
And let me add Norm Thatcher a California Chrysler dealer who raced the salt flats up until his late 60s.

i've got a pic of tommy grove being pushed started at bonny salt flats in the melrose 62 plymouth super stocker then he ran in 62 . but it won't attach for some reason . but i do own the rims and tires tommy ran that day , he chunked a rim . could not make a return run . funny thing is they bought five tires , 4 mounted and one loose in the still in firestones wrap , but only four rims mounted . no extra rims , they were two different widths 4 1/2's and 6's for the rears , with firestone sport speed special rubber 6.50 x 18's . the tires are for my salt project , here is those rims . the car went @ 165 mph , not sure what speed it let go . but can you feel that ride , wow . that makes my butt puck'rup just thinking about it .

What are they made of?
I'm guessing magnesium?

oh yes , very early american racing equipment magnesiums , only a few ever produced . i know of only 8 more of them . they were built in 60-62 . and american was new at pouring rims in magnesium . this crack off happened do to mold shift between the halves of the two part sand box . and under a 100 psi in the tires , it just gave up . it was really thin there as well , do to the shift . american figgered it out later , it just makes these real rare to find , i would like to repair or find another hens tooth , repair is it . i only know one guy that will do a great repair , but he's to bizzy with the race bike . the 'ack attact' streamliner bike . he is 77 years young . and his time is hard to come by . hope i get it done by ken , he is the best . here he is working on another project rim for me and the race bike .

The late Gary Congdon, Holley race engineer, holding the center section of the NASCAR 200 mph sand cast Dominator carb a few years ago. Jetting was 97-100-100-100. Notice the brass boosters.
