When my son was 16, he wanted to get into drag racing. He sold his street '67 Coronet and we found a '67 R/T that had spent its life as a drag car. He bought the roller and built a 440 backed up with a 727 trans, that were junkyard sourced. He spent most nights (and hard earned $, from jobs he had) in the garage working on it with help from friends and me. He raced it once, then 9/11 happened and he had a " call to duty" desire to serve his country. He enlisted in the Air Force and we stored the car. His first duty station was Dover AFB, his mom and I loaded the car in his enclosed trailer and took off for Delaware. He got to race it a few times before being deployed overseas. We hauled it home. He spent the next 5 years bouncing around the mid-east, then to Guam, Minot ND and finally Spokane, WA. We took the Dodge west. He raced it again a few times before being discharged after 6 years. Back to Wisconsin the Dodge came. Then a job with the Department of Defense took him to Travis AFB in CA. The R/T sat in his trailer for abt 6 years before I took it to Wyoming and met him with hopes of getting it race ready in California. Never happened, as life gets busy and other priorities come up. Finally this summer. He got an opportunity to move really close to home and take a job that would allow him to get the car running again. We built a shop, finishing some painting today, hooked up the trailer and we rolled the Coronet out of the trailer and into the shop. This winter the engine will be rebuilt along with the trans, brakes and suspension. Fuel system and wiring upgrades will be done also. I'm not sure whose more excited, me or him! Updates to follow.

There is no better feeling than being a proud dad. Tell your son"thank you" for serving our country for me. Have fun getting the R/T race ready again and spending time with your son.

I pass your "Thanks" onto him and thank you!!

That’s bad ***! Extend my gratitude from the Motor City to him and you guys have some fun with that beauty!

That's a great story about the history on the Coronet. Looking forward to watching the build on here.
When 911 happened, the overwhelming love of our country was shown by so many young men and women who enlisted to serve. Your son's decision is proof there will always be those who are willing to defend our country.
Thank you, and Thank your son for his service.:usflag:

That rocks Terry!
Thanks Scott! Can't tell you how great it is to have him back close to home. The car and shop will help us reconnect after his service to our nation and jobs that kept him away. We're looking forward to it!

Thank you! It was very difficult to watch him leave, as it always has been for many parents through the ages. Proud doesn't begin to describe my feelings, towards him and for our great nation. Now I'm looking forward to spending "catch up" time with him. If that Coronet could talk.....lol

Very impressive shop you all have there. Also very impressed with your son. Please thank him for his service and the sacrifices he made. His six year commitment to serve our country is enormous.

Awesome family story!
Thank him for his service.
Keep us updated, with pictures please, on the progress.

Started the 440 teardown today. Cleaning and looking everything over as we disassemble the top end.
We also hung some wallboard and a TV...'cause ya gotta have TV in the shop....
