Venting here... Trying to stop **** ATV riders speeding down our streets at all hours

A few years ago, a couple guys broke into my neighbour's house in the middle of the night. One of the burglars appeared in the bedroom doorway, which woke up my neighbour. He flew out of bed and punched the guy in the face, which messed him up pretty badly so he wasn't going anywhere after that. My neighbour works in construction and he's pretty stocky. The other burglar took off.

Anyhow, the cops showed up, assessed the situation, asked my neighbour how many times he hit the burglar. He said once. The cop said that was good, because if he hit the guy a second time, he would have been charged with assault. We're basically supposed to let intruders have free reign in our house until the police arrive, as long as they aren't being violent.

where I live, you can shoot to kill if they break in while you are in your home. If you pull in your driveway and they are exiting with your valuables then you can’t do anything.

If I knew where one of those miscreants lives I would drop a bag of sand in the oil filler of his atv.

....snip....

that's not very humorous that could have been fatal.
A chain has always been there to keep the renters next door from tearing up our driveway when we're not there.
That’s one of the hazards of blasting through private property. Snowmobilers are always hitting some farmers fence thats buried in snow. Often with bad results.

1st thing that comes to my mind iz that a 20' long 2X4 with 4" stud nails placed across it's length work just az good az as the copz spike stripz. Jer

I've been warned already not to do anything that could harm the bad guys...

Just be glad you don't live in Baltimore...

Actually these videos were the first to start this craze as if you search YouBoob you will find many 'Rideout' videos from all across the country. The police have been cracking down as in one compilation video I saw where the cops had blocked off roads to funnel them down into a expressway with very high Jersey Barriers so they had no escape and even had school buses and large trailers to haul off the mass arrests.
I can imagine the defense when they went to court, but your honor it's they're first amendment right since they were filming it for youboob as it's considered 'Art'!

:realcrazy:

Bunch of organ donors in the making.
Every part but their brains...

String a wire across the street . But not in front of your house.

A lot of cities, villages and counties are passing UTV/ATV routes around here using the town, county and/or city roads and streets. They claim it's for tourism. BS. Mostly its so they can go to the bars. The crazy part is they can get caught drunk driving and it doesn't go on their driving record ( up to 4 times). Most have no turn signals, brake or taillights. They're supposed to enforce curfews and spend limits (35 mph), uh huh...sure.
There has been accidents, few with fatalities already. Itll get worse I'm sure.

Port Colburne south of me has tried the trails thing but it isn't working very well

since you know where one lives, maybe help him top off his tank. :)

Story time....

Years ago we had some young lads renting a house in our neighbourhood, our area was around an elementary school so lots of young kids and families out on the streets.

Well they took to roaring around the streets on a mini bike, I did not have any time for that so I walked out in front of them when they came tearing up the street and told them not to be doing that and that this would be their one "polite" warning after that I would bat them off their bike with a 2x4. They were good for a few weeks but heard them roaring around one day so i grabbed a 6' 2x4 and went out into the street....guy came around the corner and saw me there and stopped....I waved him down and he reluctantly came. I proceeded to tear into him and he went away all sullen, a few hours later I was in the driveway and the guys roll up in their car, I grab my 2x4 toss it on my should like I was going to bat and just waited for them to come at me.....guess a 6'8" guy with a shaved head, big beard sporting a 2x4 for a bat was too much for their courage....never heard the bike again after that.

Do you rent yourself out? A scruffy Shrek looking dude may come in handy someday.:thumbsup:

It's a sensitive thing to deal with these days. Bad guys have more rights than the law abiding citizens....

They are starting to tear up the area where they enter the private property with the no trespassing signs posted.

We are getting a new law here...

Province says criminals will no longer be able to sue homeowners
Nov 07, 2019
WETASKIWIN, Alta. – Alberta is making changes to prevent homeowners from being sued if they injure people committing crimes on their property.

Justice Minister Doug Schweitzer says the government will be introducing the amendments to existing legislation and making them retroactive to the start of 2018.

“We are sending a strong signal to rural Albertans who have been victimized for far too long. We have listened to you. We have heard you. And we are standing with you. We want to ensure you know that we are going to do everything we can as a provincial government to help you feel safe in your communities,” said the Justice Minister in a release from the province.

Schweitzer doesn’t say if the changes are being made because of the case of Edouard Maurice, but he says it’s a story he keeps hearing from rural Albertans talking about crime.
