Wyatt convinced me to destroy my 71...

Good job guys, it's nice to see a substantial amount of work done so quickly...I'm looking forward to updates and lots more pictures in this thread
BTW, that's an impressive looking exhaust!
The exhaust is from TTI. They have the C Body kit and it fits pretty good.
If you've got HP exhaust manifolds you'd need to purchase different pipes that go from the manifolds to the rest of the set up.
Also noticed you may want to invest in som band clamps cause the pipes are slightly short fir the C Body wit a 124" wheel base. Not sure, but I think the only C set sold by TTI is for the C Body cars with 122" wheel base, i.e. Polara's, Fury's etc.
Other than that its a very nice set up, and the Dynomax mufflers sound great.

How deep are youse guys going?? Total resto?
Regardless,the car is worth it.
Doing a complete clean up. Por15 the sub. Regasket and paint the 440. Maybe stab a bit hotter cam in it. Rebuild the 727. Etc. Not going much further as well all know...it gets easy to keep digging.

Stevo, in case you cant tell from what has already been posted, my NYer is gonna live a long life once the stubby goes back in.
This car is going to be one that will be rebuilt to the way it was when it came out of the fac tory.
No need to sell it.
I dont need the money.

Its all in fun Tim, as I already have 2 1971 New Yorker 2 doors as well that are going to get the same treatment and then some........................
I agree with Matt, you have one of the most desirable cars on the board. My talking about you selling it to me is just my way of complimenting you on your purchase - but if you ever change your mind.............. just consider me the Servpro for 71 New Yorker 2 doors.....................:p

Now wait a minute, I said one of my favorite fuselage cars on the board...this is coming from a slab guy.

Is this a 71 NY with the 440 TNT? Am I seeing what I think I'm seeing?

Damn rare car. Way more rare than a 300 Hurst, I bet.

Well done, boys!

I've only seen 1 other and it was a 4 dr. I wanted that car soooo bad.

Well, here is another one Mr. C. You will have to trust me that it has the HP 440 in it though. Plus some other stuff. When I first saw it, I thought to myself, I have never even seen a 71 lemon twist 300 even in a photo, so I thought I need this. I have to do what Tim is doing to his on it sometime soon. It has 38K miles on it. More on it some other time apart from this thread.............

Okay so there were 3...but, like I said, I've never seen your car in the "flesh" before.

There was a Lemon twist 71 NY 4 dr around the base early on in my career (black top and interior though)...that was another rare one that I lusted after.

I wish there were numbers on how many TNT 440's were built, but I guess legend has it that all the records were destroyed in some fire years ago.
Like you, I haven't seen too many E86 C bodies, with the Hurst model being the only common exception. Never thinking I would be lucky enough to have one of those rare Hurst's, so when this NYer was found a year ago in Michigan I knew what it was and got a hold of the seller right away.
Here's the thread from last October:
My E86 New Yorker from Ecorse, MI

I've already done the front and rear brakes, replaced the gas tank and added the TTI exhaust, along with some other things, but this latest project got a big jumpstart yesterday.

Did a little disassembly on the rear bumper this morning removing the rear valance, tail lights and license plate bracket. After looking over the tail lights that came off my bumper, the pot metal on the metal trim affixed to the lights is not in the greatest of shape. Luck would have it though, thanks to the posting last month from @68PK21 440.6bbl I’ve got a nice set to go back in when it’s time to put everything back together. Those goofy bumper guards will be coming off after the rest of tail light housing is out, the front and rear bumpers will be going to the chrome shop where they’ll fill the bumper guard holes and straighten out any dings.

One thing I noticed but didn’t expect to see after the tail lights were removed, is that there is a red insert between the brake lights and the reverse light. I imagine the 70 300 probably has the same separator, since the design of the tail lights between these two C bodies are similar. Going to have to make sure those parts don’t get lost.
I hate using the Imperial as a shelf for the hood & fenders but I have no space now, and the green car will need to go somewhere else for a while, at least during this resto.

So today...got to talkin with my good pal Wyatt, who knew I wanted to dive into the NYer so that we both canlooking good drive out to Carlisle next year. Knowing the plan was to pull the engine/trans he told me "why not just pull the the stub and do everything".
The kid really know his ****. No ****.
We got going and start the tear into it.
The pics you're about to see are just the beginning. We got way farther today and more pics soon to follow for where we finished up. But for now, we're havein beer & food at a local watering hole in Crystal Lake. More to follow......

looking good here is mine

Another weekend, more accomplished on the 71.
Pulled the engine from the stub frame, baged and tagged parts then used the power washer and blasted 90% of 48 year old grease & grime off while we had a pretty decent day to still do some of this outside.
During the tear down Wyatt fiund another build sheet behind the passenger side bumper bracket.
This morning the triple pickle 300 went to a storage locker and picked up the hoist and stand from by neighbor.
This coming week will be more tear down and get the heads to the machine shop if everything goes as planned.
Some pics.....

Yesterday I had the powder coating company that did my air cleaner, stop by the shop to take a look at the stub frame and give his estimate to sand blast finish with a power coat. I agreed to give him the job, and would call him once it's completely disassembled.
The finish will be black, but some of you know I'm colorblind, and black is black is black to me. I can't see the difference.
Should the finish be flat black, gloss black or something else so that it will look close to original?
Keeping the rebuild going, I removed the steering box, brake lines and clips, and figured the rest will be done in a day or two.

Got to lookin at the 440 on the engine stand, and started to tear it down for the rebuild too.

Done for the day. I ran out of PB Blaster and some other supplies so I need to get out of here before coming back tomorrow.
