That junky ole car sure as hell did get around this year....
Wayy to go Scott....
Now go have a brownie and a beer.. You deserve it....

( and yes that pig still needs a proper tune up.. ) :p:p

Yes she does need a proper tune up. Need to get that exhaust buttoned up a little better. I've had plenty of beer, gonna make some brownies tonight! I love this car, and look forward to making a few improvements next year.

So my first year of ownership and driving the Monaco came to an end today, as it went into storage with the Polaras in storage.

The exhaust leak needs to be fixed, I have at least one cylinder out, I might have a collapsed lifter on no. 8 cylinder which explains one hole not firing, wheel bearings, double check my charging system, and check the brakes, the warning light came on after I started the car, which had sat for the better part of a month. Speaking of that, I got a ticket for it sitting in the same spot on the street for more than 72 hours. I'm going to try to fight it, been there ten years and had cars sit for months and nothing til now. Worth a shot. Then I'll play games with the cops, move the car at night, back to the exact same spot! I'll get a GoPro and document it for proof! Probably not, but a guy can dream. And if a neighbor called it in, they'll have fun when I park three out in front of the house next year, I have some photo ideas in my head after realizing I could fit three of them on the street in a single bunch.

It was a decent year overall, the trip to make the CatL drive made up for the lack of time to spend on the car earlier in the year. I put at least 2,000 miles on it in a short time, so that felt good. I had a lot of enjoyment from driving this car that wasn't supposed to take center stage this year! It's almost a reliable, waiting driver, but not quite there yet. It needs a shot of stating fluid after sitting for a week or longer, and the battery draining is a small issue, I think it's the battery that's the problem. I look forward to having it ready for duty next spring, when I hope to tackle all the projects that got put on hold this year!

Neighbor problems :elmer:

Neighbor problems :elmer:
Can't say for sure, just one possibility. People in small towns aren't used to cars on the street, they need 100' on either side to feel comfortable, and I am usually directly across from another vehicle. Laura complains to me all the time about it. I grew up in the cities, so I just laugh.

One more thing, I put it away just under two days short of owning it for a year.

Time to start parking everything you drive in the street on clear days. Move the winter rides for the plow... and when summer comes, you might just do a daily rotation, move them all up one space as you drive them, and put the ride of the day into the back of the pack.
You may also find it helpful to watch for chalk marks on the tires, as that is sometimes how they determine something hasn't been moved... great fun can be had, matching their marks.

First thing I did after reading the offense.

great fun can be had, matching their marks.
I figure if I can bait them into ticketing me, and proving them wrong, they will just leave me alone. Petty? Damn right!

So I went and got the car out today, I couldn't wait any longer. We are supposed to get snow on Sunday, but it won't last long.

I ran out of gas on the way home, did a good job of putting the car away with an empty tank! Got a ride home from a friend whom I had just passed, and got a lift back to the car with five gallons of gas. I hate filling the tank with a gas can, it sucks. A long funnel and a decent spout on the gas can made it work, but I had gas all over my hands, spill proof my ***.

Car ran better with fuel in it. I get to see how fun it is to swap plugs with the HP manifolds, throw some plug wires at it, and get it running smooth. Get the exhaust hanging properly, and drive it as much as I can.

It felt great to be behind the wheel of an old car again.

Best way to fill and drain these low fuel fills is a Super Siphon.
My room mate back in the early’90’s was selling these for a while. He sold all kinds of weird crap at trade shows.
This was one of the better ideas.
I see these in some hardware stores now.
It is basically a necked down copper pipe with a marble to act as a check valve, and a hose.
Set the gas can in the trunk, put the copper end in the jug, hose in tank, shake the hose about 10 times. Once the siphon is going it doesn’t take long to empty.

I have a funnel with some hose attached to it I usually use, but I never took it out of the trunk of the Polara last year, when I thought I ran out of fuel. It stays put with the license plate keeping pressure against it.

Had the Brake warning light on since last year, just before putting it away for storage. Turns out I had somehow pushed the parking brake pedal enough to turn the light on. I never use a parking brake since my cars are automatics. Glad it was a simple fix.

Picture from the drive to storage last year.
