Anyone here own a Jukebox?

Well I did it. Jukeboxes are a lot like c-bodies. All the mechanics can be repaired or refurbished. You better find a one which is complete. Any cosmetic you are way ahead of they are in good shape because cosmetic parts are rare and change every year..

The bad, selection buttons, carousel, pay play not working, and speakers are toast.

The good it will play one selection and can pull a single record out of the carousel. From what I have read nearly everything can be serviced and parts are readily available. Also if it has sat, it has for 2 years, many issues can be resolved by simply clearing everything.

The cabinet is in amazing shape, no scrapes or dents, just really dirty. After a closer inspection the only thing I can't fix, cosmetic, it a piece of white metal which needs re-chromed.

Now load it with tunes you can accompany with the accordion.

Are any manuals in it? These things usually have very good maintenance and repair manuals with them. Nice old fashioned schematics etc.

Looks like very nice unit congrats!

Thanks, yes I bought a service manual, which has a nice big troubleshooting section. It came with an original schematic which is probably 3feet by 3 feet, I was very happy to discover it.

What in the hell have I got myself into. I went out to my shop with the SM and tried to familiarize myself with the jukebox. I am impressed with how every thing swings down or up so you can get to everything. The bottom works which is the turntable and the magazine carousel of records. It pulls out about 6 inches the then swings up about 45 degrees. All the control panels are pivoted from the bottom and swing down.

I am going to expand on this thread, and cover my restoration of the jukebox. At any point I may throw my hands up in defeat, however the restoration will continue, but in the hands of a professional.

Had a few hours today to work on it. I began with general cleaning. I also started cleaning the accessible micro switches, with great results. Both were not working and now they are. I also removed the magazine carousel for the records and cleaned it. With it out of the way I have access to many more items, including the last switch which was not working, for the function of the magazine.

Feeling much less overwhelmed by the whole process, when you have some positive results.

I know the feeling... they are a real labor of love....

If you think these are daunting, you should see the innards of a late '70's 'United' Shuffle Alley bowling machine!:rofl:

Lol... they won't play on a 45 machine unfortunately... However, if you were to invest in a 78 player, I'm sure I can hook you up with lots of collectors much closer to you with many great 78s.

Yes I was actually referring to that 78 player that I showed above. It's very tempting I think I might ask for some more pictures. Longer it sits in his garage and more issues its going to have. Maybe to my advantage.

Here is my other project, when I was ready to leave with the jukebox, the gentleman came up to me and asked me if I would like it, no charge. Absolutely when I got it home it is a wallbox used from 1955 to 1961, it won't work with my jukebox but that is fine I found another use.

There is a company that makes a conversion where it can be hooked up to a iPod playlist and then hooked up to your modern stereo. The wallbox will work exactly as before by feeding a coin and making a selection.
