The view of the steering column is too poor quality to see if there was a shift lever attached originally. It does look to have at least a stick shift brake pedal. There is an awful lot of stuff missing from this car which will make it an extensive and expensive return to service or restoration. Would need to see a build sheet and build tag to verify the stick shift. I do not remember ever seeing a 3 speed with a floor mount in a '63 Chrysler, but I obviously did not see all of them. Wrong alternator and wrong distributor jump out for starters. I suspect that this was a parts car that someone started to bring back as a hot rod. In any case, given it's current condition, it is way overpriced.

3 speed floor shift was an option on 300's.
Tall stick is correct, as is location like 300K location that was on left next to console.

Thanks for the info. I can't really tell given that all of the letter series badging and trim is missing if this was a letter car to start with, but it does not appear so. the trim on door panel is chrysler 300.
Definitely not a 300J If it was it would be the only one ever seen!
You could get 383, 413 big blocks in a 300 non letter car and I think that was reason for heavy duty 3 speed and shifter.
I wonder if that shifter was unique only on 63 300 or 300J.
This is the first one I have ever seen or heard of!
Very rare car in my opinion but price is an issue.
I have a real,running 300J I'll sell for $9000
 
The shifter on the 300 sport above is the correct one for the non letter 300's and the Newports. It was basically a carry over from the Valiants and Darts. The shifter was anchored to the floor board and was a very wimpy unit. Only the 300J's with a three speed ( all seven of them ) had Hurst shifters that bolted to the transmission tail housing. The Hurst lever on these were a '63 only part and common only with the max wedge three speed cars and the B-body cars with the Borg-Warner four speed transmissions. There were actually quite few of the '63 cars sold with the three speeds, Chrysler had a sales pitch that year that you could buy a Chrysler for less money than an Oldsmobile. They went with the a-body floor shifter unit as the '63 steering columns weren't designed for a manual shift lever. I sold a running '63 Newport hardtop last year with a three speed manual in much better condition than this one and was very happy to get $1,500 for it.

Have you ever seen one of the 7 300J's with a 3 speed stick?
this is not the light duty shifter.

There was a 64 Newport 4-door 383-2 3-speed for sale in Eastern WA and I don't think he got $1,500.

None of the 7 J's are known to exist. A late friend told me that he had heard of one in a PA salvage yard in the seventies that had been wrecked and pretty well picked over. No way to verify whether or not it was actually a J. Here is a shot of the shifter in the Newport I had and the hurst lever that I installed with the four speed in my J a few years ago.

There was one for sale here in the Netherlands some years ago ; white 63-64 newport orig 3spd stick on the floor 4door. Nice car for 11,000,-euro,s iirc.
Sorry , can,t find pic,s at the moment.

Too bad no production numbers are out there. For my '62 300 convertible I heard six were made. But that is speculation. I sent away to Chrysler and confirmed most options of the car etc.

"Motor Trend" did some "basic car" road tests, one of which was a '63 or '64 Newport 361 2bbl 3-speed manual transmission. Pictures of the floor shift in the article, too. Obviously, as the steering wheel dimension to the instrument panel were so close on that body design, only a floor shift was possible.

Their intent was to prove that you didn't have to get a higher-optioned car to get a good car in the medium-priced field.

Considering that by '63, the aluminum case 727 was out and noted for its efficiency. That this also seemed to be a time when automatic trans vehicles were preferred as "upscale", I suspect the 3-speed manual installation rate in Chryslers was pretty low. As the gear ratios were similar to that of the 727, performance could be similar.

I have a friend in the Buick club that gets all excited over a manual trans car. So there can be a niche market for these cars. Might not equate to more $$$$, though.

Probably still sitting in the same spot today, on the plains of North Dakota. 361 3 spd. Think he was looking for 1300 on it. Most of the cars he had (15 or so) came from an auction in Washington.
