Another old photo from the archives

Looks like a 56 Plymouth Savoy to me. Could it be something else?

I agree with cm23uoc, the tell is the lack of fins. 56 was the first year for the fins on the plymouths and dodges.

That is awesome! I wonder what colour combo it was. I haven't seen a beige or cream on white in any photos but that makes the most sense for a police car in the day

Supposedly the 1st year of a Police Package on a Mopar was 1956 but I'm sure you could order the heavy duty items earlier.

Our service probably did not get the "Police package" I have found VIN numbers from some in the 70's and they were not "Police package" vehicles that they ran.

Thanks everyone.

Aside for the chrome and dual paint. Are there any other differences in the Savoy model and the Belvedere for 1955? Reason I ask is I found a 55 Belvedere local, Would I be able to "restore" this to look like a Savoy by adding the chrome strip from a Savoy???

Belvedere was the "upscale" Plymouth, back then, with "Fury" being the performance model. Which would mean the Belvederes had more chrome and better interior trim, than the similar Savoys. Might look in the '55 and '56 parts books at www.jholst.net for exterior trim illustrations. Possibly the interior door trim and such, too.

It's possible that the earlier police cars were related (hd chassis and such) to their taxi cabs of that era. First V-8 Plymouths were 1955s, I believe, although Dodges were a few years earlier.

We had a '56 Savoy 4-dr sedan. White over brown with white on the bottom. Six cyl 3-speed, radio, heater, whitewalls, wheel covers.

Enjoy!

So if it is the same car, an just the trim is different, for argument sake I could delete the Belvedere ttim and replace it with the Savoy trim? Problem with that is I assume the trim hah holes trhough the sheet metal holding it on so it would involve. filling and drilling new holes....but doable?

As for the color. Allpar site shows that "The Savoy line offered four color combinations of two-tone green, two-tone blue, brown with cream, and gray with charcoal. Plaza buyers were offered just three color combinations— two-tone green, two-tone blue, and light gray with silver "Plazacord" accented by satin vinyl bolsters on seat cushions and seatbacks."

Hard to tell from the black and white photo above but what do you guys think was original?

Sarasota Sand and Orlando Ivory are the only 2 "white" colors for Plymouth in '55. But I don't see that combo as being an option. And I am pretty sure a small city like this wouldn't have done a special order. It could be that the black and white photo and me assuming the cars would be white could be playing tricks on me?
