Warranty Block Question

So that’s what the “A” means? I have that on my ‘69 motor.

It means it was inspected by this guy.... Who thought there was a rib there too.

It’s not an HP block. Standard 440, so it’s not a “6 pack” motor. 4-20 Assembly date. With a .020 overbore “A”.

So since it has no VIN, but it does have an assembly date, we can assume it was a short block replacement. — 6BBL, Magnum, TNT, Super Commando,...not. If it had HP internals it should state so on the boss.

I wonder how an engine with a 7/70 casting date could have a 4/20 assembly date?

That is a really long time for the casting to just sit there. Maybe somebody lost it. Or the overbore defect caused a significant delay until there were enough similar casings to make a "short run".

Agreed,...it’s s long time unless QC in the engine plant designated the “off cast” and overbore engines as warranty replacement cores, which makes sense. You necessarily wouldn’t install “off cast” engines in new cars unless they were in short supply. That’s how MoPar did it,...many NOS parts especially sheet metal parts are “factory seconds”, e.g. they wouldn’t fit in the assembly line, but were sold as dealer stock later.

The Letter "A" immediately following the engine number indicates Bore ,020" (.508 MM.) Larger than Standard.

Pulled my 383 HP out of the 69 wagon that Fury Pursuit saved from Wildcat Mopar years ago. And found this I think it's pretty cool. Montgomery ward engine by the numbers looks to be out of a 69 Roadrunner maybe.
