1965 pace car restoration

I had to rehang front doors now that I’ve assembled them. Also needed to adjust the glass and try and get everything lined up with the top frame. One side done so far. Door opens nice and all the gaps are really good. Front inner splash shield was a pain in the arse to align. I will probably stone guard the underside eventually once I get tired of cleaning the white floors

I'm glad I'll never hafta park my car next to yours. . .

Looking Sharp Terry! You are doing a fantastic job. I was wondering though if you had any plans to spray some black paint on the radiator core support behind the grille? I think Chrysler blacked out that area on all light colored cars. I agree with the stone guard in the wheel wells. It won't take long to ugly them up with a few stone chips on that white paint. Thanks for posting your project.

It should be black and I’ve always done my restos with that section blacked out, but I’m liking the crisp look of the white. I was going to get car finished first and out in the day to day light to get a guage of whether I still like it. If not I’ll black it out. I’m dreading the stone chips. But I spent so long getting the floors perfect that I thought I’ll show them off for a bit first then make it more driver friendly. There’s quite a lot on the car that’s not factory correct and looking back I really should have followed my heart and painted it red as I always wanted a red convertible. But being a pace car really made it a difficult choice.

Other side nearly sorted. My lettering arrived last yr but I never really looked it over. It’s not correct as the original was in lettering size and bold. I spoke to a local place here who will do me a new set but it’s going to be a bit costly so I’ve decided to go with these for the time being. Truth be told I might get sick of them in six months and take them off anyway. Just waiting on the correct blue top from legendary interiors now.

Looking great, doubt you would run across anyone that would notice the wrong lettering. I would be looking at your outstanding restoration and even if I knew what was correct, I would still not notice.

However we all come across that one guy, at some point, who likes to find something incorrect and point it out to you. :)

I’ve installed the new washer pump and hoses this week. Also remade and fitted all the brake and fuel lines. Took me a day to strip and clean the old outer spring for the main brake line. It cleaned up really nice and fits really good in the new line. Just waiting on my blue top from legendary interiors to get sorted. Hopefully buy all the new brake hardware and booster this month then drop the engine off to get sorted.

Couple of more bits achieved this week. Stripped and painted a rim to be used as a spare. Tidied up the trunk area and also finished the hubcaps. I’ve bought all new brake hardware and just waiting on a booster rebuild kit to arrive so I can finish the brake set up.

My booster rebuild kit arrived yesterday so today I assembled the booster and fitted the new master cylinder. Also made the last of the brake lines up. Ended up having to buy a whole 6metre length. Think I only used about 14 inches of it. Just waiting on the shoes to arrive back so I can assemble and bleed the system.

Beautiful work as always, I think that is the first new/restored single stage master I have seen re-installed. :)

Steel lines with copper coating? I love the Nicopp lines, nickel/copper made just for brake system pressures, won't rust, easy to work with, great for making lines here in the rust belt.

My wife doesn't want me watching this thread anymore! It's giving me way too many ideas on the 66 which WAS just going to be a light resto....
