Most of the factory shim gaskets were marked "this side up" Most of the aftermarket gaskets will be marked "Front" and/or Left/Right. Lettering will usually go up for installation.

The phase "Green Side Up" comes to mind, but maybe tht only applies to grass.

I suggest you compare the new gaskets to the old ones and make sure all passageways that are supposed to be open, are and those that are supposed to be blocked, are. Other than that, I don't think it makes a difference if ridges are up or down.

I was going to say the same thing earlier today. The embossing doesn't care up or down, but the coolant and oil passage holes certainly do. As far back as I can remember, head gaskets have not been "handed"...can go on either side, up or down, the holes are where they're supposed to be regardless of orientation, yada.

as far as l can tell it looks like ridge down in this vid as best l can see..mayby you folks have better eyes....thoughts?

This is want I have. With TOP facing up embossing of the gasket is down. If you look between the 2 lower bolt holes you will see a Pentastar, that is the part number stamped on the other side. Part # up embossing up. Still could be a toss up.

tech sppt says he and his buddys run ridge side up all be it theres no tech info there as to what to do....so its gona be ridge side up....

I did find this note in a 1972 Motors manual. The FSM says to use MoPar #1057794 or equivalent.
So maybe Indian Head Shellac. Permatex sells a spray on copper sealer.

They only make 1 gasket. So 1 side up other side down. It really doesn’t matter or care. Although it bugs my ***. Kim
