Found another good-looking '72 GT8 NYB for sale, this one in Michigan. The seller is asking $5k.

The paint is said to be original, and the car looks in very good condition (claimed to have only a couple of rust points in the usual places).

I asked the seller yesterday about the poor shape of the carpets, especially on the front passenger side. He said that he had never experienced any heater core issue when he owned the car. What he believes to have happened is that the windows previously did not work and the previous owner had taped them shut -- which apparently was only partly successful at keeping the water out. He has since fixed the windows, and claims that the issue is no more. I do not know if the discoloration on the driver's armrest and the shape of the engine bay are consistent with the mileage claim: only an in-person inspection would confirm the info.

Nice car, just not for me.

I really like the car. A four-door hardtop with a root beer paint job and black vinyl top. Perfect!

If it is rust free and that paint is original that is well worth $5,000 im my opinion.

It appears that the front license plate holder is rusted through.
I'm not familiar with these parts yet so is this a metal bracket that mounts to the bumper?

Is the discoloration on the drivers headrest common? It appears both front headrests have similar discoloration.

All the carpets are in really poor shape with lots of staining.

There is a dent on the drivers rear quarter that has bent the trim. Is this trim easy to replace?

I really like the car.

I click on the for sale link and it says the car is not available now.

What? Am I only allowed one question per comment?

Ok, since there is no answers to my questions, is there another thread that yal have talked about this car in?

There are other threads on this car going back probably 2 years. Have you tried the advanced search. Might need some patience.

Thanks Matt! FWIW, the phone nbr from last week’s FB ad was a 313 nbr — different from the one in last year’s CL ad. The photos and overall story are the same, though, and the seller’s explanation when I talked to him a few days ago matches the one from the 2018 thread. So it’s probably the case that he has two lines or changed numbers.

thanks Matt. That was easy.
I will try to find the other threads.

Guys - from a safety standpoint a four-door hardtop is quite simply a dangerous idea. Structurally unsound in every way shape and form. It is by definition flawed engineering. Deathtrap on wheels and an accident waiting to happen. I would not allow my loved ones to ride in a four-door hardtop. Don't believe me? Whatever, I’m not even going to waste my time opening that link.:stop:

Wear a helmet, then.

What in the heck does that have to do with a four door hardtop? I don't see how failed rods has anything to do with anything car related, maybe the steel channeling, and that's it. I definitely won't be attending any tea parties anytime soon, I think I'm safe.

You've thrown the bait, and I've taken it.

Where do you get your opinion from? Two months ago you thought they never made a four door hardtop, now you are claiming they are a deathtrap. Have you not seen a convertible? They don't have a roof! Talk about a deathtrap! Flip that thing over, and you're probably gonna hit your head!

Unless I'm missing something, they did manage to pass federal safety laws, and get produced in pretty decent numbers. My old Geo Metro was a deathtrap, and it has B pillars, a roof, and doors and hatch that wouldn't stay shut or latch.

Not trying to busy your balls, but I'm puzzled where you got this idea.

I learned to drive in a brand new 1980 4 speed Chevette. Talk about a death trap. When you hit 60 in it it sounded like every bolt was shaking loose.
