Craigslist not great anymore for finding cars

100 miles? That's it? Well I wouldn't have found mine then as it was over 400 miles away.

My .2c about FB; only provide the personal info you are comfortable with sharing (the less, the better), no different than what you tell people in real life. Many scammers/thieves on FB too, a lot of time wasters also who seem to send 'is this available' messages just for the hell of it. Good in some ways but I wouldn't miss it if it was shut down.

IMO be careful of FB, it is the number 1 propagator of viruses on the internet excluding ****. The viruses seem to be most prevalent in the FB games but other areas of FB are known to be common carriers of viruses.

It certainly does seem to be the most popular tool for selling things now. I personal use searchtempest or autotempest the most but I certainly see the advantages of FB but haven't gone down that rabbit hole yet.

I do recommend decent anti-virus and VPN software. The internet can be a very dangerous place from a data security perspective.

I'll have to look at FB again and see if I can figure out how to search further than 100 miles.

In FaceBook Market Place it's not to hard to type in the cities names and after I do a search I see plenty of other cars outside the 100 mile range, mostly crap that I'm not searching for though lol.

I don't trust SearchTempest via their own admission about Googles limit but now just checking the SearchTempest Support Troubleshooting I see that they have changed things a bit on that. Still I wonder how they have not been taken down by CL as many sites in the past have. I think eBay is putting the kebosh on SearchTempest as quite a few time I have seen no results for eBay.

It's not hard to just pick major cities in CL and include all the surrounding areas and just bookmark the page.

Yup. I’ve noticed this too. RIP Craigslist we’ll miss you...

I've viewed and made contacts via both CL and the Marketplace. But seemed to get faster replies on Facebook. The major issue I run into was finding the listed location wasn't their actual location. I'm searching 60 miles of southern Minnesota/northern Iowa and for some reason cars in Illinois come up. Sorry but I can't justify a 600mi. round trip.
Watch out because I feel like I got tricked once due to cross posting. Eample an owner of a Monaco somewhat local I found on CL. Made some arrangements to view after his vacation and then remembered of the Ebay listing after the reserve was met.

What!?!

**** can give you a virus???

:wtf:

That's almost as bad as the real thing :BangHead:

That's a bare minimum to get a clean car, well, the ones I hunt for.

4500 miles to San Clemente CA - Eagle Creek, OR - Home.
700 miles to Lincoln, NE - Home.
1200 miles to Zionsville, IN - Home.
All last year.

It's not practical for some, but for me, I'll go to wherever the car is if it's one I really want. Still want to fly to some airport, have the seller pick me up, and drive the car home. I already have one in mind, I just have to lay a golden egg first.

I wonder if one can establish a FB account with fictitious personal info, (address, phone, name etc.), in order to access marketplace.....

I know some cbody guys who have done this. I wouldn't do it if you wanted to sell on Market place, people might figure you are scamming them.

You can keep things pretty vague. I know a guy that uses his first name but his mother's maiden name, and another guy who uses a nearby town as his location and not where he lives.
