Dodge 880 and Custom 880

To add to the model confusion , the 880 or custom 880 tag is one emblem on the dash . The outside only says Dodge.

Had to look up a sales brochure for the 65 Dodges out of curiosity. This is technically the first C body across the three car lines.
Polara is base level model, Custom 880 is the high line model and both trims available in 2dr, 4dr, conv, and wagon. Custom 880 also offered six window sedan. Monaco was 2dr only with highest trim level. Whew, can’t imagine assembly complexity through the trim shop.

Polara was smaller, and Monaco did not exist yet...
The Dodge Polara is an automobile introduced in the United States for the 1960 model year as Dodge's top-of-the-line full-size car; after the introduction of the Dodge Custom 880 in 1962, the Polara nameplate designated a step below the full sized best trimmed Dodge model; the Polara that year had been downsized to what was in effect intermediate, or mid-size status. In its various forms, the Polara name was used by Dodge until 1973, when its position in Dodge's line-up was replaced by the Dodge Monaco. The name Polara is a reference to the Polaris star, in a marketing attempt to appeal to the excitement surrounding the Space Raceduring the early 1960s. The Polara was a competitor to the Ford Galaxie 500 and the Chevrolet Impala.

Sorry Jet, check your history. 1965 saw the introduction of the Monaco as a 2 door coupe only while Polara was the low line C body and the Custom 880 was in it's last year (US) as the high line C body. All were produced on the same platform and shared all sheet metal etc. with the exception of the 880 six window sedan which had an extra window on each c pillar.

Yes I believe you ate right about the ‘65s. My bad, but the 62 and 63 880’s had a longer wheelbase than the Polara.(116 for Polara, 122 for the 880)

Oh absolutely there were significant differences in the earlier cars, there were major changes in the 65 lineup.

Dad worked overtime on the 65 C bodies most 63. They entirely new vehicles that shared no sheet metal except the rooflines. And yes my car is a 65 Monaco. Then they further confused things in 66.
