Your teeth are going to hate you.

Very good movie. Thrilling, and a great piece of auto history education for anyone who did not know the come about of the Ford GT40. I admit I had no idea such a car existed.

Pardon my Rudeness Fellas, Don't mean to Offend anyone But I always remember a Friend of mine's Comment at the Time. "Yeah sure Ford beat Ferrari. They only needed a 7 Litre Engine to overcome Ferrari's 1.5 Litre". Not really a lot to Boast about in my Opinion. Having said that, I do consider the Ford GT a Classic in it's own right. A VERY suitable Xmas Pressy. As far as the Movie goes it looks as though it could be quite Enjoyable as long as it's not taken too seriously. Regards Tony.M

They weren’t drag racing Tony.M, they were running 24 hours balls to the wall. You think that’s easy to do in a 7 liter V8?

Ferrari used a 3.2 liter V12 engine in 1965. 4.0 in 1966. Ford used a 4.7 (289) in 1965 and the 7.0 (427) in 1966.

Yep, more cubic inches... That's the way we do things. 'Merica.

What hasn't been considered is the level and limits of fabrication back in the day. No CNC machines, no CAD engineering. As for safety, the drivers were surrounded by fuel tanks. No engineered crush zones for driver safety. To have an engine of that size run w/ reliability by its self was quite an accomplishment to achieve. With that much HP even more so. Engineering was much more limited. No computer technology. This is how you beat Ferrari. A cinema classic in the making. Nuff said.

That straightaway is a long pull for any engine no matter the size. The Piston crown and exhaust valves take a beating that long at WOT. Much like Bonneville except it has to do it for the better part of 24 hours over and over.
Safety is non existent, that how Enzo got his moniker "the Executioner" lot of drivers got to drive for Ferrari, but did not live to tell.

Are you casting aspersions upon the great Enzo?? :D

I agree and will add the limits brakes and tires. The GT 40's were capable of 200 mph speeds on the Mulsanne Straight

Saw the movie, and enjoyed that the producers included as much focus on & about the drivers. That made it more entertaining for me.
The other night I watched a cable documentary on demand about the real story of the rivalry between Shelby/Enzo and later the Ford saga.
From the editing in the documentary, it sounded like Shelby had to deal with a lot of crap with Ford. But to Ford's defense, they did hold the strings with Shelby, and right or wrong, controlled many of the decisions.

You lost me at 1.5L... but I would like to see a 12 cylinder in that displacement

The Ferrari 125 used a 1.5 V12 in 1947. Their first Formula 1 car used a supercharged 1.5 in 1948. Of course, the later Formula 1 cars were limited to 1.5 liter engines when using a supercharger, so there's later versions too, but only in Formula 1 cars.

BTW, want to know what engine is in a Ferrari? Multiply the model of the car (in this case 125) by the number of cylinders. 12 x 125 = 1500

You seem to have a suspicious amount of information about Ferrari :poke:...

Thanks for the info. Looks like the cooling jackets took as much space as the cylinder bores... no wonder it appears normal-ish in size.

It's not all about displacement. The P3 Ferrari of '66 was a 4 litre V12 making 420 hp @8000rpm, compared to Ford's 7 litre making 440hp @6400.
I've got a 2.2 litre turbo in my '89 Esprit that puts out 260 hp @7200 rpm. I know that may not sound like much but consider the time period. An '89 Corvette with a 5.7 was putting out 245 hp at the time. A Ferrari 328 put out 270hp out of their 3.2 litre V8.

I know of guys who put in a few mods with different chips in their ecu's that have pushed out 400 hp out of the 2.2 Lotus engine. Pretty impressive especially when they weigh in at 2900 lbs.

Great movie... I like the character development, when Shelby made The Duce cry and the despicable internal politics of Ford that almost killed the project, the drivers and the cg race scenes which were incredible.... I was glued to the screen the whole time.

I watched a few documentaries about it before I saw it. The movie seemed to track reasonably true to the facts and I enjoyed it immensely.

An absolutely travesty what they did to Ken Miles.
