Hello Everyone,

I posted this first question on a thread a while ago but didn't get a response so I'm trying again.

I hope to have found a guy to do the body and paint on my 69 PH23 Sport Fury but have a couple of questions.

First I'm looking for any recommendations for rebuilding/fabricating the tabs that the chrome strip attaches to and/or the rear glass sits on around the rear windshield? a few of mine are rusted away.

I've removed the vinyl top and the roof is in far better shape then I expected however it does have surface rust. I'm trying to determine the best way to strip and possibly coat it prior to having it painted along with the rest of the car so save some labor costs and I want to make sure it's done right so when I re-install the vinyl top, I don't have future problems.

Thanks!

For the roof, sand it to bare metal and then spray it in Epoxy..

As for the trim, are you referring to the clips or the pins they sit on?

Thank you for the quick reply, the pins the clips sit on. I know some have said small screws work well, so would those be tacked on by welding?

We just went through the same thing on Maggie's 69 Fury.
In a nutshell the rear window had to come out to replace the rear window clips.
We did sand the roof and primed it.
Here is the link for finer details...

There are screws that can replace the original studs.

I'm sure there's better prices, but this shows you what they look like.

Even if you are sanding your bare roof there may still be fine little pits that harbor a trace of rust that you can't reach. I used a rust converter on my roof and then shot it with two coats of epoxy. Since the car was ready to paint it also got shot with two coats of color before taking it in for vinyl roof replacement. There has got to be some rust around the C pillar seam like mine.

I'd do the rust removal by myself to know that it's done right, while I'd leave the paint work compeltely to the hopefully good paint shop as I don't see the potential savings worthwhile, the material will be needed anyways and a properly done prep work won't run you much into the Money for just having this additional Surface painted and the Quality should also be a tad better if done in their proper workspace.
