Unusually nice example of a '57 DeSoto. I am always suspicious of a car that does not run because of a "bad starter" and wiring. If the seller expects to get premium money for this car, it needs to be running, what is he thinking?

You summed up my thoughts exactly Kenny. Very nice original car. I would like to know more about the engine and where the original one is, but otherwise it seems like a new starter/cable would be in order and it would run. The listing text seems pretty on point as well.

Wheels and air cleaner need to go, Beautiful car though. Almost breath taking how nice forward look cars are.

I want to bid on this car but I have reservations about the "engine work" .

I agree with all of the above, and add some nice floor mats as well. I recognize the photos as the streets of Palm Springs.

A couple years ago I had an intimate encounter with another Firesweep in that town:

Depending on the price of course I would think the hardest part of finding something like this would be the condition of the body, chrome, being straight and a good interior etc in nice shape. The engine would be the easy part and should reflect in the price.

Even considering all of our points of view, unfortunately I think I bet he's thinking in the $20-25k range. Is there a reserve? I didn't notice one...

With its non running issues....i don't see how it would bring that much but it is Mekum week:rofl:

My horrible lifelong Mopar tumultuous relationship started when my grandfather pulled up to the house with a 57 DeSoto 2dr hdtp.

There is no reserve on this auction.

The '57 "Soto" I Banzai'd across Michigan to my wedding had ah 140 speedo in it and a baby hemi under the hood. Gawd I miss that car. Found it in the mid '70s rusting into the Ground in the Irish Hillz in South Central Mi. and I wished I hadn't seen it like that, way sad, Jer

So I asked a friend about this car who lives down there. It turns out that it was purchased in Pahrump, Nevada a few weeks ago & trailered it here for the current owner, who wants to flip it and make $$ . Paid $12k for it. Buyer Beware...Apparently he's being deceitful about several things in the ad.

Edit: More info....It's got a 341 hemi in it (from 57 Fireflite). Headers, loud mufflers, big exhaust pipes.
Disc brake conversion up front, so the stock steel wheels won't clear. The photos in the listing with the wheel covers are just propped onto the mag or alum wheels for looks.

This model is the lower trim level on the Dodge shorter wheelbase 122" and has Dodge front fenders.
An early build since some states quad headlights were still illegal
The Firedome and Firesweep lines were on the Chrysler 126" wheelbase.
The Adventurer had the 140 MPH speedo and was Desoto's twin of the 300 letter car.
Regardless,I still love the fins and stacked lights of the 57/58 Desoto's
Cheers
