Eddie Van Halen (then & now)

When I heard their first album I was hooked. "Ain't Talkin' About Love" just may be my favorite VH song.

I actually think he would've been a better fit than Gary was. I remember reading or hearing somewhere that Van Halen had briefly considered one of two Canadian female rock vocalists, either Lee Arron or Sass Jordan, around that time, but I'm not sure which one. I don't know if it was just a rumour, an urban legend, or if it was true.

Yep I didn’t like Gary. He was the wrong style for this band. I think Mitch would have been a better choice, but the fans were hungry for the return of Dave

For most fans, it just wasn't VH without Dave. When I heard the first hit with Sammy, I wasn't sure either, but I grew to like Van Hagar. I couldn't get used to VH with Gary though.

Yea when Sammy & Eddie did that live Farm Aid set with the Zepplin songs the chemistry was clearly there. I thought oh yea this is going to be good. Then when why can't this Be Love debuted even though I liked the song it just didn’t sound like Van Halen or Sammy for that matter. Over time as new music was released they made the new sound/style work. I became a Van Hagar fan. Love that era now.

When Gary came along the band was getting older & the fan base was getting older. 20 y/o’s didn’t like Van Halen & 40/50 y/o fan base didn’t like Gary. It was just a bad fit. Although Mitch was pretty young his style would have clicked with the seasoned fan base. I think he would have been just fine & may have broadened the fan base at bit more too.

i think david lee roth was the best for van halen. sammy hager was good but dave was better. but as far as david lee roth as a person a do not like him. back in the early 2000's he had a morning radio show that i listened to on the way to work then one day he starts bad mouthing coal miners about their job. being my grandfather worked in the mines and retiring from hanna coal with over 40 years after hearing that i lost all respect for him outside of van halen.

Eddie has been cancer free since 02 and he and Valerie divorced in 07. He married his publicist in 09.
No he anounced back in November he was undergoing treatment again. They are saying it’s in his tongue this time likely caused from holding guitar pics in his mouth. He had a reaction to cancer meds & was hospitalized briefly in November
