66 Sport Fury-From The Beginning

Well we noted a minor setback today in the shop. While reading thru the rebuild manual, I realized that we inadvertently forgot to install the oil slinger on the crankshaft after installing the new timing gears and chain??????
So I spent the afternoon removing the water pump housing and timing cover for access to the crank. Found the oil slinger in the pile o parts box, got it cleaned up and installed, and reinstalled the timing cover and properly installed the harmonic balancer.
I'll try and get the water pump housing reinstalled tomorrow...Feeling like a grade A dumbass......

Wow Clay, your vision is really coming together now! I feel like I was right there in the garage with you!
Thanks for the pics, for your business and confidence, and for your friendship. It's truly an honor in every respect! :thankyou:

I posted some pics to your FB page Leanna but I can't seem to find them. I just couldn't get it done in time for the calendar :) And I've finally made contact with the body & paint man in an effort to keep this moving.....

Not a lot new to report since I've lost my garage yet again.....:drama:
So I spent the last few evenings loading up my spares and tools and hauling them home to place in the carport.
The car started running rough and I spent one evening tracing plug wires and trying to figure it out. Finally while checking the wiring, one of the wires attached to the coil fell out of the end of the connector so I'm figuring this is probably the issue:mad:

I'll be up there this evening replacing the connector and hoping this is the issue since I need to drive the car home tomorrow.

This is all pretty bad timing since it's cold and nasty and I finally managed to catch the body and paint guy at his shop and we're officially in the que for mid march:thumbsup:
This means we're gonna be readying the car out in the weather. Oh well, not the first time that's been done I'm sure.

After a ton of wrangling with SWMBO and a bunch of second guessing myself, we've decided to go with the 66 Dodge Pale Medium Turquoise Poly with a couple coats of clear. It should look something like the car in the pic that I found on line. We wanted something that pops but didn't want to wander too far off the period correct colors and since a certain guy down in Berryville, VA just snuck in and grabbed the metallic bronze for his wagon that's out!:poke:

This will be full blown prep and paint, inside and out, and the engine bay. The interior stuff will be black.
Any opinions????

Great color choice! I think the 66 color you've chosen will look more like this.

I really like that colour but don’t think it’s original to the year. If you don’t care about originality I think it would be a great choice.

I would pull the pan off and check the rear band. Check the oil for discolouration and filings. Pull the servo out and inspect it. These servos have cause plenty of problems in the past. There is a new updated version.

Looks like I'll be laying in the gravel this weekend getting into the tranny..... Updates to follow!

In an effort to make sure the paint is exactly what we want I started a thread over in Exterior, Paint & Bodywork. Thanks to 300rag and several other great people, SWMBO and I finally have it nailed down. Here's a shot of 300rag's car and we are going with the same color. I did have to promise to never bring my car to Alberta haha...……

Since the weather calmed down a bit this weekend I decided to put it to good use and begin readying the car for the paint and body man.
Removed most of the trim and the grill and took apart the back lights from the parts car to get them packed along with the vert windshield trim and some badges for the trip to the chrome and trim resto folks in PA.
Removed the back seat and door panels. Got everything done except the two front seats/console and carpet. I'll try and get that done next weekend if weather allows.
