I am currently working on replacing the turn signal switch on my 66 300.
I have one question. do you need to remove the wires from the connector in order to get the switch out through the steering column. I have also purchased a new switch but it seems to have different type of connectors on the wires will this make a difference if I connect it to the old connector coming from under the dash. I have added pictures of current switch and the new switch

Yes you have to remove the wiores from the connector to slide the wires through the steering column.
Are you sure you have the correct TS switch?
Two different switches in 66 with tile/tele,and the other without tilt/tele.

Yes this is for a non tilt Thanks for your quick reply

Also be sure to make yourself a map as to where the wires were installed in the plug. Saves a lot of head scratching later.

I will do The only question I have is the new switch has a black wire but the old one in picture does not have a black wire I'm thinking the the dark green wire on left is black on the new wire

Quite possible for the horn. Check first before running the wires.

I believe you are correct the black wire is for horn the old switch had a dark green and black wire tied together. I believe but will check tomorrow when I go to install. Thanks for the advice.

And this is where an ohmmeter would come in handy for checking the destination of each wire on the new switch.

Is there trick to removing the wires from the connectors? see pic above

If you look at the side of the brass tab that looks like a fish hook, that little hook is what holds the tab inside the plastic connector. Usually you can use a pick or thin small screw driver on that side to push against the hook so it can be pulled free.

The new switch (and the old one for that matter) are made by AC Delco under license to Mopar. They are essentially a GM part.

There would have been a short jumper harness from the white connector block coming out of the bottom of the column. It would have the correct terminal block to mate with the white connector and another correct terminal block to connect to the black connector on the harness for the rest of the system. You need to look for that. It may still be in your dash harness.

The wires on new switch have a fish hook connector the old switch have square looking see pic above I was wondering if I could put new switch in old white connector from old switch, I see what you are referring to but again the wire end are different.

Pull old one out with a string tied around all the wires so it pulls up into the column jacket. Use the string to pull the new switch group back down through column. Put them back into harness connector.

Correct, however, I think he is saying the new switch's wiring terminals are different than the original's.

This leads me to wonder if he has the correct new switch.

Again, clear pictures of ALL the components you're asking us about will help

The new switch
The new switch end terminals and terminal block
The old switch
The old switch end terminals and terminal block
The wiring terminal block to which it connects to in the dash harness.

Is there a reason to have the wires go thru the column jacket? I am having problems getting new wires through the column even with thin wire attached.
