You are correct that the grille was removed from a 1961 Dodge.
And you’ve probably noticed it has the rececessed areas open which the 1962 Dodge models had closed and usually painted.
However, I’m not 100% certain there’s any documentation when that change was actually done by the factory. Especially considering that it’s a well known fact that mopar used a lot of leftover 1961 Dodge parts to create what became the new 1962 Custom 880 models that replaced the 1961 Dodge since they were a sales disaster.
In addition, in two different 1961 Dodge master parts catalogs that I have there are two different numbers listed for the 1961 grille.
The 1962 parts book has another part number for the grille that doesn’t match either of the other part numbers previously listed. Then the mopar interchange book lists the same grille number for both 1961 & 62 models which probably become a running change. And also explains why there are some 1961’s with the 1962 style grilles, if it had been replaced at sometime.
The parts that have the same part numbers in all the master parts catalogs are the left & right headlight bezels or door surrounds.
