Been an auto mechanic for 16 years and Ive always been into older dodges cause of my pops and 80's Japanese car cause there cheap and around not like older mopars.

It has poly 318 and I got it running after some work and engine smoked bad been sittings since mid 80s. Trans shifted good. Pulled the intake and found this.

Now swapping in a known good 440 from a camper and fresh rebuild 727.

I looked at your other postings, and wanted to say... this is/was pretty typical.

Old motor oils were valued for their paraffin content, making PA crude an desirable motor oil base. Lots of chemistry I'm not explaining and more that I don't fully understand, but back then it was pretty common to see an sludgy engine like this on disassembly. I had lots of valve covers I took off that had so much the rocker imprints were visible. As motor oils became cleaner and additive packages improved, this became a less common sight.

You'd clog the heck out of some oil filters, but a lot of this would actually be cleaned up if you had run her with regular oil changes and newer oils... I believe the mess is still there primarily because she sat out of service for so long and never experienced the benefits of oil technology of the 1980's. I still remember how amazed lots of us were when taking off valve covers of engines run on good oils, compared to the stuff we usually found one older oils and iffy maintenance schedules.

I don't know what the ultimate plan the Seneca is, but you may want to review it before let all of this get away. Motor mounts are going to be different than your 440 (but I'm not an expert, or have any experience with that swap). To change from a push button transmission to a newer one will require a shifting mechanism. I don't know if a column shift can be made work from anything, but I a little part of me dies every time I see a floor shifter used on one of these. IIRC there is some aftermarket electronic shifter that I saw, which might be pretty cool, but I'd work out those details before get rid of a working push button tranny. If the RV transmission has a drum on the back for the parking brake, I'm guessing it could be made to work. Otherwise, you'll be stuck changing to a different brake system for the rear, which is all good if you've planned that far.
