If you watched the Superbowl last night you probably noticed the new Ford "Mustang" Mach E commercial. IMO what the hell is Ford thinking, a "Mustang" SUV?! :realcrazy:. I think the design is terrible, and Mustangs were always cars not SUV's. I just don't see a "musclecar" after all these years turned into this. It just seems to me that Ford is taking a big risk, and going away from the Mustangs car "roots". What do you guys think?

Yeah, I think about the same ... But that trend started years ago, when some brands that were recognized as luxury car brands started to make SUV and pickup trucks.

Cadillac Escalade ????
Lincoln Navigator ????
WTF !!!

Lost their minds! Gigantic mistake

the Mustang performance image lives today in drag racing and NHRA factory stock.

No surprise since Ford made a decision to no longer make passenger cars, only trucks and SUVs.

This is the same company that thinks pickups need four headlights burning all the time. Still can't get over that, and how it passed Government approval???

Ford will be laughing all the way to the bank...

Pretty obvious their crystal ball is working!!

It is not the first time Phord tried to mess with the Mustang..
The Pinto-based Mustang II.
Like the Kiss "The Elder" album both are forgettable.

Yet,Iacocca had a sales hit with the Mustang II in keeping with the times of the fuel crisis of that time period.
The 1979 Fox platform Mustang did bring back the excitement--to a certain point,LOL
Remember the Probe?
Ford intended it to be the front drive replacement for the aging Fox platform.
Even then "Pony Purists" cried fowl and won.

My $.02 is that they aren't selling the mustang heritage, they are shooting for the people that are familiar with the mustang name, its popular right? They are looking for the people that think they are saving the planet. Just like the Hummer electric truck. It's a Chevy with a new grill and the Hummer name.
The aging car people don't see it, but the millennial group does.

The U.S. no longer drives the car manufacturers, it's a world decision. At one point the U.S. made something like 72% of the cars. Now it's in the range of 17%. The world wide green initiatives and safetycrats have succeeded in telling us what we will be driving. There are few exceptions, if the Challenge and Ram truck for example, weren't such cash cows they'd be dead too. Ford is leading the race to the automotive internal combustion cemetary.....

Nothing new from the tree huggers as you say...
Think about it... 20 years of Toyota Prius...with Ford's answer to it the Cmax.

Never saw it...or if I did just zoned out through it, like 95% of the commercials. They are awful for the most part.

To me the best one was with The ground hog day redux, with the jeep, and Bill Murray reprising his role. Great way to sell it and @Ripinator did a great job.

Well, Porsche offers a 4 door sedan now. Looks like a BMW with Porsche front and rear fascia's grafted on. Mercedes has a SUV, why not a Mustang SUV? They'll sell a bunch of them. Lots of High performance soccer moms and road course golfers out there.

An advanced application of the natural selection process. Incinerated drivers after the crash.

No different than a FOUR door Cougar........ Ford has done this before with the Mercury Cougar Nameplate over 40 years ago. Don't forget the Cougar FOUR door sedans AND Wagons of the 70's through the early 80's! Ahhh... the memories of eating popcorn at the Movie Drive-in, seated in the front seat of the family Mercury Cougar Station Wagon. Lots of room in the Back seat too!

The Ford guys stated that they named it "Mustang" as any other name would not get it recognized (AND talked about). The "Mach-E" is another heritage reference to the earlier 1970s "Mach I" performance model. Again, they obviously made the right decision on the name as everybody's talking about it AND talking about a FORD.

There is also a similar Camaro running around, too.

Look at the various power levels of the Mach-E AND pricing. NOT cheap.

THEN consider that many states are considering surcharges on the registration of electric vehicles, too. No gas usage means no "road tax on consumed gasoline" for the state/federal highway funds.

Enjoy!

Ford already announced earlier this year that they will no longer put any research and delopment dollars into gasoline powered engines and would focus entirely on electric and autonomous vehicles for the future. There are no V8s already in Navigators, Expeditions, Or Explorers. I would bet in the not too distant future that they become the 1st all electric car company of the US makers.
