turn signal switch install hack?

Shee mar recently started making the switches again (SM107T for 1967 Imps with Tilt/Tele), now doing the install, the diameter is too big. See pic.
Company support claims I must have an alternate steering column.
If I were to trim some of the plastic around the edges enough to make it slide inside the column, does anyone foresee that preventing the switch from operating?

Or am I better off figuring out where the column came from and buying the switch for that? Though I'm not believing it's the wrong column...

That looks like a lot of material that needs to be removed. IF you can't figure out what column you have, or what switch you need, available or not, then I might finally decide to start modifying the new one.

No, previous owner gutted the old column and wired up a toggle switch to replace the signal lever, but it didn't work properly.

That type of plastic is some pretty tough stuff to work with, so I do not think trying to reduce it is a good idea, you probably have the wrong style switch. There are two different '67 IMP turn signal switches, one for the tilt wheel with telescoping, one for tilt wheel without telescoping. You might want to download the FSM and the parts list for free at www.mymopar.com. You will find it in the tool/reference section.

That switch doesn't look like any i have seen in a column, somebody here should be able to show a pic of their original for comparison. Can we get pics of your column innards without the switch?

Switch appears to be for the Saginaw non tilt column.

It's a SM107T with Tilt/Tele. I don't have a physical piece to compare, but looking at their website, the two models are near identical with the main difference being the 107T has the steel rod connected between the red and white wires, but the plastic looks the same.
