My wife is going through an old trunk filled with family memories dating back to the late 1800's. Some great old pictures, school records, property deeds and other interesting items. Everything is in amazingly good condition due to being left in the trunk and not bothered for all these years. Most of it is of no interest to anybody outside of the family except for maybe these Union 76 decals. They must've been picked up by my Father in law on a trip through Nevada as all the names are cities in Nevada. Does anyone have any information on them? Maybe when they might have been given out?

That's museum stuff!! There's real history in your hands. Thanks for taking the time to discover these items and share them with us.

Those decals say printed in Los Angeles, 5, California.
Postal zones went away in 1963, so i would venture to say, those decals have gotta be early 60's.

I found that postal zones were used from 1943 until 1963 when zip codes started. Somewhere between there is when they must've been made. Not sure how long ago this type of decal was used. It's the same type as we used on our models in the 60's.

I found a few of the 76 Decals on E Bay. The ads say they were made in the late 40's and early 50's. They are priced at $28-$38.

....and Winnemucca and Reno are in Johnny Cash’s I’ve Been Everywhere, IMHO one of his coolest songs

Now if you could only find matching decals for Wendover, Elko, Battle Mountain, Lovelock, and Fernley that'd make a complete US-40 Nevada set.

Cool WWII stuff!

My Grandma worked for A/C Delco during WWII making bomb sights for bombers.

My 1st trip across this fair land from SoCal to Detroit az an adult waz in the fall of '58 and I basically went north thru' Vegas and up to Salt Lake City and jumped on and then off the finished portions of I-80 and back on US-30 for the rest of the trip 'til I got east of Gary, Indiana where I tried to run I-94 and spent more miles on US-12 to my destination ah bit west of Detroit. So my thought would that US-40 would be quite a ways farther south but no memory of that east-west 2 lane? And I waz a passenger on US-66 from Chicago to LA in the spring of '51 also but that waz way before Ike got busy designating routes building the United States Autobahn. Anybody 'sides me ever noticed that the interstate system where ever it passes a Military Base that their's paved road that ends at the freeway and their's locked gates at the chain link fence and the medium is built up to be level with the concrete or asphalt so if and when needed the military vehicles can do a cross over and head in any direction N-S-E-W as required. Next time youz guyz go past any Military Base check out what I've just said lol, Jer

US 40 went from Atlantic City to San Francisco. I've been interested in the old "Federal Highways" for a while. I grew up in a town in Central New York that was the intersection of US 11, (Canadian Border to New Orleans) & US 20, (Boston to Newport OR.).

Not questioning you 4spd, but odd that 30 & 40 would parallel each other that close and both end up within a few miles of each other at the north AND south end of San Francisco Bay? At least that's where I-80 ends on the north side of Oakland? Can't believe how many WWII ships are rusting away in the back water of SF Bay that can be seen from I-80. Kinda like when you're headed west on I-10 coming down the grade into Tuscon and look north at all the tails of all the War Birdz in that grave yard too. My apology's Chris. Not my intent to hijack your thread Pal. Some times my Memory Banks are too full and just over flowing. My Mom used to send me to the grocery store with those WWII Ration Books and I'd get tokens back in change? Never could figure that one out? lol. Stay well My friend. Gonna miss yeah at Carlisle this year, Jer
