512 Build, deciding on intake and carb manufacturer

I would like to go down the 1/4 mile once or twice a year ,but yes the car is not a drag car by any means.

Yes there was a thread on this here somewhere. A similar system to the Oldsmobile W-31 if I remember correctly with the flexable hose with air inlets in the bumper. It has two inlets on the aircleaner. Maybe hard to find [ the thread]as it was discussed to convince a guy not to cut a hole in his hood.

Yes, that's what I was thinking about. But would a setup where the air filter gets relocated (instead of on top of the carb) give a lower profile and allow hood clearance with a taller intake manifold?

Here is the fuel pump for a 70 u code 440. I do not like the flare fitting outlet because the hole in the center of seat is like a orifice. This also limits you to 5/16 outlet.
The pump for the T code 440 is better being a hose Barb on each side. If you look down each one it they are straight through with no neck down area.

Like this but add hoses?

Ideally you'd find dyno tests done with the hat you're looking at. Some carb hats really kill power, like 20-30hp, more than cold air will gain

Yes thanks. I don't plan on using one. I am actually just using a stock dual snorkel Commando air cleaner. Possibly with a drop base that FURYGT uses that also opens up the bottom.

Don't know if I posted this or not. I have decided on a intake and carb for my build. I was very concerned about the height of the Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and using my stock dual snorkel air cleaner. After asking questions here and FBBO and mr Duane Porter who did my cam and heads for this build I have settled on the Holley Street Dominator intake manifold. It is an old design with low height compared to the Eddy Rpm manifold and it is single plane and flows very well. To compensate for the single plane I am going to use the Edelbrock 800 cfm AVS2 to help atomise the fuel better at lower /idle rpms with it's anular primary venturis. Main thing I didn't like about the Holley was/is it's big honkin logo between runners . Looked stupid. Here is a pic.

It is more blatant in person. Got this idea from FBBO and here it is now.

Much better at least to me and the whole engine will be painted Mopar Turquoise or blue or what ever you call it. I can not take credit for this. I showed a buddy and asked about who could do it nicely. He said "Just do it!" I said I would rather not as I would **** it up even slightly and be pissed at myself and have to look at it for the rest of my life lol. He said leave it here,I'm not afraid of ******* it up. Had it the next day.

Whacha you talking bout? Are you going to get rid of that super bright ASV2 label? LOL

I think we are about the same place with our builds. Just got my Holley back from Dana. My engine is almost done.

Ha. you will still be faster.

Its the MOPAR off-shore stuff that we never had before. If you are going to bore the cylinders, turn the crank, and find and rebuild 915 heads, its not much more money to get the stroker kit. We are all living the Chevy SB dream! Sort of.

My 70 Newport came with a 493. The RPM on it is pretty tall & I have a Thunder 800.
Seeing that Holley intake makes me think as I have a 2” filter with no lid; just about seals to underside of the hood!

Got a pic that we can see?

I have the same setup. Performer RPM, QUICKFUEL SS830 carb. 1/2" phenolic spacer (necessary to clear mechanical secondary linkage) i did the ol' wad of plumbers putty on the air cleaner then slam the hood. 1/2" clearance without the underhood mat.

We according to my measurements I wasn't so lucky. But I think/ hope this will work well.

Holley SD intake makes power for sure in the magazine tests. Loses low end TQ to all intakes, but with a big stroker and small street tires, that's not necessarily a bad thing.

That was a big concern that the Holley is a bit soft on low end torque but as you said and many others that convinced me to use it , I will still have all the torque I need down low anyways. And the reason for the AVS2 to somewhat compensate the lower rpm manners. Kinda looks good on paper ,,we will see.

all OEM brackets for throttle and a/c work with it as well which is not true for the other intakes.

That is great news for sure, thanks. Does this manifold date back to the 1970's? Any idea when it came on the market??
