SMS lead time

Haaaaa!

You will be lucky to get that vinyl from SMS by the end of year!

Good Luck!!!!

Received the top!

I am wondering if the RH side was cut a little short, though.... With the top aligned and centered it lays out just up to the back of the stainless trim front and back.
Of course it will stretch but how much. This is in 50 deg F temps too....
The LH side has a generous overlap, though.

Headliner still pending....

Man that’s close!!! What does your installer have say about it?

Don't know yet. I can't drive the car right now due to steering issues, hopefully I can take it out by next week.

I sent the photos to Kim at SMS for their take....

Good luck!

Yours fits a lot better than the first one they sent me.

This one would of fit if I had a 69 Charger. Wait a minute.....Dodge never put a blue vinyl top on a 69 Charger. Lol

I see, as Bob and a few others that Have dealt with SMS before has mentioned, the usual lead time is, usually forever!! now you may have to send this top back and order another one that has more material.. imagine the lead time in that situation. In warmer weather your installer may be able to get what he needs out of that current top. Just say’en.. but, if he says he needs that extra material, then you Gotta do what you Gotta do.

I ordered my top material from Penn Industries out of Oklahoma. Ran about 120 plus the ride. Had the correct grain, and in hand in a week.

They don't want the wrong one back.

Too cheap to issue a call tag.

I really hope it works as-is. Even though I can't replace the top now 'til next summer, I would like this ordering phase to be over with. Plus it would be a shame for this "new" 40 year old vinyl to go to waste.

:wideyed:

Sent SMS a request for carpet and seat vinyl samples. Their reply with samples and pricing came a week later. Vinyl and carpet were exact matches. I got a quote for vinyl material only and for complete seat covers. All good news.
However, they need my old seat covers for patterns.
That’s not gonna happen.

samples are generally fast and match's are good....its after that the wait begins generally

Fortunately there are plenty of custom auto upholstery shops in this area. Found one 4 mi from the house to make the covers and install for half the price of the SMS covers within a month.
I’ll start a new thread in a couple weeks.

I have to drive, gasp, a half hour away. Feels like eternity.

I do have an upholstery shop in town, but when he wanted me to get the supplies from SMS, I decided to take my money elsewhere. He didn't seem to want to work, but just talk about it. I can't wait to spend $900 for my buckets to be recovered. I'm going to try mimicking SRT seats, in terms of support, while retaining a stock-ish appearance.

My installer finally had a look. He recently moved about 150 miles away and had to plan a trip down here.

So the verdict is that that top is fooked. It's cut too short, plus he noticed things I didn't...the seams are lopsided, uneven, and don't line up where they're supposed to.

All that waiting for a bunk outcome, to be followed by more waiting...

Given the history to date, I suppose that replacing the top this coming summer is now out of the question.

FOOK!

Sorry......

They usually get it pretty close to being right on the 2nd top.

That's unfortunate, get in contact with them ASAP, and keep on them. This summer shouldn't be out of the question. Give them a month, month and a half, then, or now, talk to the credit card company, and see what your options are. And at barnfind's price and time, cut your losses?

So who else out there might make correct headliners.....or at least have the correct material for C-Bodies?

Legendary? Laysons?
