Has anybody sourced the GE85, or 85 interior bulbs used in our Mopars in the 60's & 70's ? Its the small double contact bulb for most interior light and map light applications.

Will.

Will, when I was working on Bittersweet, 90% of the bulbs were burnt out and I made a night of it sourcing every stinking bulb to have all new bulbs with spares. Including the discontinued ones. Still got them. I'll box them up for ya.

Thank you. Replacement # is 90, (dome lamp). Also found 1004, brake light, likely to bright for interior use.
I ordered from Amazon. $10.00 for four.

They must have changed for 1967. My owners manual shows 1004 for courtesy and map lights. Somewhere I saw 1004 listed for the center console but I put lower powered 90 bulbs in there so I wouldn't melt the lenses. The map lights and rear courtesy lamp housings had 1004s in them

Your probably right. These bulbs were used throughout the 60's and into the 70's I think, in almost all Mopar car lines. I had a handful of the double contact bulbs marked GE 85 that I had salvaged. 1004's are brighter then the 90's, (which seem to be the replacement to the 85's). I was afraid they may burn to hot and melt, or discolor, the plastic lenses. They are listed as brake light bulbs for some applications.
I ordered some 90's and will see how they work out. Might need to step up to 1004's.

I agree! I only replaced 1004s in sockets that had them. My console had 90's so I kept those.

The correct bulbs for your car are listed in the Owners Manual, over the years bulbs are discontinued or people replace them with something different for who knows what reason. I usually check the owners manual fist to confirm the numbers.

The Parts Catalog relevant to your year model lists all the bulbs, and I think the FSM does too. I use LED replacements wherever possible to minimize the load on a 54 yr old wiring harness, the battery and such. Quality has improved markedly in the past decade too. There are even replacements for the turn signal indicators on top of the front fenders which do a good job. Mind you, for mission critical bulbs like tail lights and front turn signal bulbs, which list as 1034s, I use tinted Philips 1157s now, which can be had from Rock auto for a reasonable price. I DON'T recommend Cree or other, no-name Sino-sewage stuff for anything important, and will likely go to Grainger to upgrade the license plate bulb if/when it burns out. For now, it does very well.....
