Restoration of aluminum lower sill moulding’68 Polara

Initially I didn’t think they would be good enough to anodize. But I did find a place in MSP that clear anodizes. I need to call next week and see what they say. Depends on pricing.

After a little break I am back on the trim. This second piece was in worse shape than the first. Actually this is the first piece I started on, and may have been a little too aggressive with the hammer. I am getting it closer. The concave bevel is kind of a pain.
the little Teflon glass tool is the ticket though. I can rub most dings through from the back side.

After massaging the hell out of it with the Teflon tool and a blister starting on the palm of my hand, I think got it as straight as I can. I will sand the crap out of it tomorrow to see if I need any more massaging. Should be pretty good.
My fingers are going to be sore tomorrow.

Almost ready for polish. Sanded through 400 grit. Will go to 600 before taking it to my buffing wheel.
This one isn’t quite as good as my driver side. A little more road rash, and a little too aggressive when I started.

Polished and test fit. Actually turned out better than I thought.
I need to do a little back bending or massaging.
Next start working on a template for the molding clip screws. I see I still have bug guts in my wheel well.

Trim clips mounted and driver’s side trim on.
Template, drill, screw, attach.
There is one spot I need to tighten up, but I am very happy with the results.

passenger side mounting next weekend when I get home.

Job completed last night. And took it for a test spin. I noticed that some of my clips have a little more bending action than I would like. The driver side trim may need a little more bow taken out of it as it is flexing the trim away from the car. LH is ok but I did mange a crease and small split while back bending to straighten. Still looking for NOS, but not as critical.
