As you can see, the trim overlaps the rubber seal on the passenger side of our 66 Polara.
Something needs to be adjusted or replaced, right?
The FSM shows two rollers centered in under the window. Could one of these be broken?
Or...is the something damaged in the front track where the vent is?
Or is it something else?
I'd like to get this fixed, water pours in the gap the misalignment creates during rain or car washes.
Thanks!

Well Dsertdog, you are in for some fun getting the windows aligned again.

I just completed this last year on my 66 Polara convertible.

Chances are you have some broken rollers or in need of major cleaning & re-alignment.

Another cause ofthe rear of the window dropping is that the front guide is worn out and the slider pin is broken or dropping out of the vent window channel.

It's tedious work but worth the effort once aligned and sealed again.

I think I posted about what I did to fix this about 7 or 8 months ago.

I'll look it up.

If you grab the top of the window on a corner and try to pull it up, and one end or the other will move up more, odds are the roller on that end is broken or has jumped out of the track. Open the door about 6" and use the door handle to lift up the door, if it can be lifted more than about 1/4", the hing pins are worn out. Worn hinge pins also cause misalignment problems because as the door drops down from wear, the trim line goes out of alignment. A quick check is if the top of the door sits lower than the top of the rear quarter. You can try raising the door striker pin to see if that will help.

Found the one link that covers the question of the roller replacement.

Has anyone played with replacement rollers?

One thing that most of us may miss when servicing the roller assemblies is that the rollers may be a bit egg shaped thanks to aging of the plastic in one position.

The roller spreads out and then jams in the aluminum housing plus the centre hole becomes off center causing the roller to stall as it spins.
The result is that since the roller is no longer rolling, it causes the roller to develop a flat spot and slides instead of rolling as it was designed to do.

Even if the roller looks good it may need some special attention to fix if it can be. most of mine that were not broken were out of spec.

I had a full set of aluminum T6000 series aluminum rollers made at a local machine shop at a pretty hefty price.
I had a few extras made and shipped them to Michael Madden @zmurgy for him to test with his mold process.

From the work that Mike did it looks promising for the nylon rollers to be made but there is no proof that the rollers will stand the test of time.

When you get it done come and fix mine. In my case I need to readjust the top and then readjust the windows. I have played with it but am not happy yet. Not my forte.

FYI. you always have to start with the windows then align the top to the windows.

The FSM covers this from start to finish, working from the front to the back window.

You will have to remove the door panels so you can make the needed adjustments.

Make sure all rollers are working and rolling smoothly or you will not get the results you are looking for or constant results of a smooth operating window front or back going up & down.

As soon as I get a chance I will redo everything. I know the top is out and have saved the info on top adjustments. When I redid the car I replaced the door pins and the doors are adjusted perfectly. All the window hardware was removed cleaned and lubricated. The rollers are in good shape. I think I went wrong trying to fit the windows to the top.

Usually, if the hinge pins/bushings have worn enough to cause a window misalignment, the door shell will also have a similar misalignment too, very visibly so. AND, the door can become much harder to latch, usually, as if something is out of whack. BUT, you have to start somewhere.

In this case, you have two possible places. The possibly easiest place is with the rear window's roller mechanisms. IF that's not it, then that leaves the door hinge pin/bushings to consider. So check the body line alignment with the door and the fender & quarter panel AND see if the door might shut easier if you lift up on the outside handle as you close it.

Please let us know what you find!
Just some thoughts,

Start with the door FIRST.

1) Align the door to the body.
2) Align the vent pillar assembly. If the the door glass has a gap at the bottom, then the TOP of the vent pillar needs to move forward and the very bottom of the vent pillar needs to move rearward. The whole assembly will pivot in the middle to allow this.
3) Adjust door glass height.

4) At that point you move to the rear glass, IF required. Typically the rear glass likely needs no adjustment, only track cleaning and lubrication.

Finally, adjust the top.

^and this^

Since you have a convertible (how guys noticed that in the first pic?), you have the double whammy of door sag and it's more difficult to align the glass. Get the door taken care of first or you'll drive yourself crazy.

Your FSM will have glass adjustment procedures that will help.

Thanks Big John.
Somehow I believed that most people on the forum knew I had a convertible.
She's a pain at times, but I'm not ready to let her go...

My driver side rear window lifts out of its track. The front of the glass is secure but it looks like it lifts and docks out of the felt in the track. What keeps it tight in the horizontal track that it rests in?

Hey Al,
Found a guy with 2 speaker grills. Bought them both. Want one?

I believe it is pressed into the felt channel with epoxy glue.
I have seen conversations on this topic on how to glue it back into place but can't recall who did this.

Update:
I had the Polara out this weekend. The door pins are NOT the issue, I believe by their color they've been replaced by the same Dorman parts I now have extra of. I can literally lift the whole car by the door with no play in the pins. The door itself could use a very minute adjustment to make it level with the quarter panel. If were any closer, I'd say it was factory.

However, I can move the window around A LOT. I mean like pick up the back corner about an inch or better forward
I can see the front slider on the top and it looks worn. It looks like it's in a thin plastic track which has also deteriorated.
Thanks to @bluefury361, I see the front sliders and various rollers are available. Does anyone else door rollers specific to this car?
Any thoughts?
Thank you!
