Hi There C body brothers & sisters,

Does anyone know a decent tranny rebuilder in New England , preferably in Mass or the Shire? Working on a 68 Newport.

Thanks,
Mike

Good question Mike, I’m kind of sort of but not really in the same zip code as you,I’m NYC, and I’m curious. It’d be nice to know that we had one close enough if any Trans issues. I await the replies.

Then two best people I know closest to that area are chryslerdon on this forum. He is located in Smithfield RI. I don't know if he has the space for the entire car since he has a 300F and a 300E in the garage apart, but would probably be up for bench jobs. He built me a great transmission for my 340 Dart that I race hard. He has also done work on my 66 Belvedere and my 67 coronet. He specializes in old mopar stuff especially the old cast iron torqueflights. I know he also builds transmission for Herb McCandless.
The other guy I would recommend in Steve Peluso at Peluso Precision. He is located at 93 Blackstone St. in Mendon, MA. (508-478-8900) Steve has been doing transmission for years and now just transmission and repair work on the old stuff. He does great work, and loves the full size cars.

FNA Transmissions , Wakefield MA
They did the rebuild on my 66 Polara. Its perfect.
They are a first class operation.

Ask for Mike.

I agree with 68_fury_ragtop. Steve Peluso is your transmission guy. Don’t let the pontiacs fool you. He has a love for Mopars.... he will tell you that a 68 fury was the first car he bought. Great to see these other shops too.

I think this is the guy you are talking about:

Torqueflite Transmission Rebuilding:
"I'm offering my rebuilding services for 1956 and up cast iron Torqueflite and 727 transmissions. I can also rebuild PowerFlite transmissions. Many club members have my rebuilt transmissions in their cars. I have been doing these for close to 20 years and have been working on Chrysler products for over 30 years.
I also have a distributor machine and can recondition dual point distributors and most others. I can also do pretty much any mechanical work on cars. I have been a club member since 1982. Contact: Don Verity 29 MacArthur Drive, Smithfield, RI 02917 401-231-7816 email: [email protected]"

I just emailed Don Verity in RI, and he got back to me very quickly. Just an FYI for those Interested. To rebuild a 727 with relatively no issues he states is around $750 an about a week maybe two turn around time depending on the schedule.. that does not include a torque converter.
